Re: Job Market Is Dead!

Ron,

Why don't you do something for yourself?

Contract yourself out?
Do Consulting?
Become a professional speaker, sell your experience.

There are lots of openings for people who have no ties to bind.

Ron, I will remember you in prayer.

Funny you say that, my wife & I were just discussing various options including retraining.

You are not alone. I was reading today that there are 6.5 million folks in the United States on Unemployment Insurance.

Re: Job Market Is Dead!

Ron, praying that you will get a wonderful job.

Maybe it is paranoia, but it seems to me that some companies are using this economy as an excuse to lay off workers, cut benefits, etc. to increase shareholder benefit. I know of at least two companies that have no cut in revenue, but are cutting health benefits and cutting long time employees and hiring temps. They say it is "due to the economy." Management got bonuses, while staff did not "because of the economy." It really upsets me.

A number of years ago (1992) when I worked for McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, Ca they had a huge layoff (56,000).

The group who was commissioned to design and implement it were given a huge, really huge bonus for doing such a 'fine' job.

Every one in the group took their blood money except one fellow who said (to the effect) How can I accept this when I helped go hungry so many loyal employees?

Long Story short, John McDonnell fired everyone in the group but him for accepting the 'bonus'.

Hummm?

Re: Job Market Is Dead!

Just an update:

Job market is still dead, people have been real nice & positive to me, nobody knows what is going to happen, & God is still good!

I am amazed at how many shuttered buildings, for lease or for sale signs I see every day.

Nokia, SKG, are two of the big names I hear are closing in B.C. Texas Instruments just had a big layoff in the North West.

I am glad I know who Jesus is!
