Re: Inheritance For Your Children

I think it's definitely a Biblical injunction to leave an inheritance if at all possible. I hate those bumper stickers that say, "I'm spending my children's inheritance". I hope to be able to lay up money for my kids.

The Bible also talks about laying up and inheritance for your children's children. My grandparents not only designated money for their only child, my mother, but left sizable sums for their 10 grandchildren. I have designated a sum for all my children and grandchildren.

No. What are they supposed to do with the money when the rapture happens? Only sinners would be left and they'll mis-spend the money. Use it all now for massive television ad campaigns!

At this point in life, I feel more like I owe to my mom than that she owes to me (she is the only parents either of us have left now). I would give her anything I own. But I certainly would never EXPECT her to give to me.

On the other hand, I will say this: when Walt's dad died, he had bought a considerable amount of life insurance which all 4 kids split evenly. That money has been a very, very big blessing for us. But did he OWE that to us? No. Are we grateful? Absolutely!
I agree Margie.

I think it's funny. But then, I doubt I will get much at all. My parent's are not big spenders and they were not big earners. However, they are spending my inheritance to live on!! But if they took a nice vacation sometime I would be happy for them.

Re: Inheritance For Your Children

We do have a sizeable amount of life insurance money that our boys will end up with after they pay off our funerals. And they can sell the house and split that money if they want. But other than that, I'm afraid we will have to be living on whatever money we have saved up. I think company pensions are going to be going the way of the dodo bird, so we'll probably all be in the same boat.

I hope to leave my kids a fairly decent amount. I guess time will tell.

us too, ILG. But I DON'T want them thinking that we OWE them that. If they get it, then good. It's a nice gift of love we were able to provide for them. But if we can't provide that for them, I don't want them thinking that we failed them as parents, therefore we must not have loved them enough to sacrifice so they could live high on the hog after our deaths.
