The reason I mention it is because many don't realize that this is what is taught in many places in Oneness groups.
That is what is taught, but it is never said like that.
Basically, if you don't speak in tongues, no one really knows if you are saved or not. So if you are really saved, you'll speak in tongues and there will be at least one other person there to verify.
A condensed version of all of that-- you have to speak in tongues to be saved.
No smiley, cuz this is the truth as in this is what we Apostolics teach.

Swaggart seems to have softened up a little. He's had the McGruders sing at his church several times (he's had very good things to say about them - praises Priscilla highly!) and has had TD Jakes preach there. Quite a change from his stance in the 80s
I like to hear him preach on the radio. I use a filter and just let a few phrases or statements of his slide. He will preech on so much that almost all other radio preachers avoid. He is good and focusing that salvation was at the cross and we are under the blood. It is more than going to the front and shaking a preachers hand.

When you are ostracized by your previous religous associates you tend to broaden your horizons.
When JS messed up the first time it was not long afterwards he started being open to fellowship with Oneness preachers. I know one he had some contact with and who almost did some event with him in a Spirit of fellowship and restoration but after prayer did not feel to go ahead with it. Shortly thereafter JS was caught the second time, this time in CA in a rental car with porn mags and dressed similarly to when he was caught the first time in Baton Rouge.
I found it extemely ironic that JS had made such a big deal over Jim Bakker not following the AOG plan for restoration and then when he himself got caught he didn't either.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."
Quote from Ethel Goss (widow of 1st UPC Gen Supt. Howard Goss) book "The Winds of God"
Hey all, Jeff here. Interesting thread about JS. I know somewhat of his background. I am originally from southern WV, and my pastor was R. A. West. He was one of the few oneness preachers on tv in the late 80's - early 90's that I know of. Bro. West started out as a tent preacher and traveled with a lot of other oneness preachers in the early to mid 70's, H.Richard Hall, and Jimmy Swaggert.
Bro. West said one time during the mid 70's that just as he was beginning his tv ministry that he was down south preaching with Jimmy Swaggert in a tent meeting. After one particular service, Bro. West met with JS and they talked about their future ministries. Jimmy Swaggert told Bro. West that he could no longer go forward preaching the oneness doctrine because if he did, he would lose his crowd. It was at that point that Bro. West and JS parted company. JS is very much aware of the oneness message.
I have a little booklet JS circulated some years ago called, "The Error of the
JESUS ONLY Doctrine". For someone who sang SO many beautiful songs
about the Name of Jesus and then to be so against those who believe that
"whatsoever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus.
JS said Jesus is not the Father, The Holy Spirit is not Jesus or the Father.
Until we know what we are talking about, it is better to "be swift to hear,
slow to speak, and slow to wrath".
Blessings,

Richard Gazowski told a family member of mine that JS told Richard Gazowski that he did not personally write that, but a staff member did. It was obviously commissioned by JS, though. But JS said he wondered how Bro G could ever forgive him for having that printed.
It was not long after that that JS had Mark Hanby preaching for him and called Hanby the best preacher he ever heard in his life -- all just a little while before the "fall" of JS.
