Problem with the scenario, my dad does not now, nor has he ever had TV. Now, he does have a TV set that is used to play videos, but it has no capability of receiving a TV signal. So, perhaps this man could have seen this and misinterpreted it.
Except... this man had NEVER been in my parents home. So, moral of the story, who knows how many people this "man of God" told his fiction to, that did not know my dad and have the courage to ask him to his face about it. Stands to reason that this story could have turned into a "widely known fact", and may well have as far as I know.
Oh, and BTW, my dad was in the anti-TV res. crowd.
Listen, this can be debated all night. One personal example versus another. My pastor knows ministers that aren't so secretive about their insistence on having television though. Those that deny it, I'll take their word.

Well, having been on the receiving end of the spreading of rumors, and knowing the things my dad has gone through, I decided a long time ago to not believe anything bad about someone unless I know it for certain. And someone else word is not generally good enough for me. But that's all I will say on this subject, I am trying to stay away from the debate threads!!

I recently took this same position in a prior post about a musician and his pastor. In trying to talk about a general issue, it's hard to avoid some sort of allegation. I think, for instance, people falsely accusing your father is a shame. However, I know for a fact certain ministers that preach camps/conferences that also turn into Saturday couch potatoes with their TVs in the UPCI. And from others my Pastor knows, it's not an uncommon thing. This is why the whole TV debate has gotten so much life lately. This debate was settled decades ago when the Beaver was a sitcom star. (And no, not everyone in favor of the resolution lacked character, integrity, were TV-aholics, etc... many were good men with good intentions).

I don't doubt that these things happen, Melody.
However, I've been in the homes of ministers who were ACCUSED of some of these very things, and the accusations were totally untrue.
In our country, if an accusation is made against a citizen, that citizen has the privilege to a trial at which the accuser has to PROVE the accusation, and the accused can defend themselves with the truth.
In the UPCI it's not so - once the accusation is made, there is no recourse.
That's my frustration.

right now he is an ultracon. give him about 2 months and he will be something else.
I think lately the changes have been far swifter than two month increments!! What I don't get is his inability to understand why people don't take him seriously. It baffles me!
