Re: We're Not Putting X-Mas Trees Up!
The Methodists continued to regard the holiday with suspicion and antagonism well into the 19th century

Apostolics in general... as I realize that some of you may have been anti-fun your whole lives so I cannot direct it to any specific person. I think it is silly that things that were not wrong 20 years ago are suddenly wrong today. I remember UPC churches having Halloween parties and haunted houses when I was growing up... now they have Harvest parties, etc.
If God doesn't change, why does what is wrong change? Or were the preachers back then just ignorant and as we get more and more knowledge, we will discover more and more things that should have been wrong all along?

Neck, please show me where the apostles advocated the use of xmas, or celebrated the birth of Christ. Didn't you mention that xmas celebration is no where in the scripture?

Re: We're Not Putting X-Mas Trees Up!
I see a lot of finger pointing and some really sad arguements here. However, Xmas is pagan, always has been and always will be. Why in the world do we need to mix light and darkness?
If I cannot share my love with someone through the year in holiness, why do I need to practice paganism one day a year in order to do so? That is sheer dumbness. Also, why would I want to bring something that has clear pagan origins, and is pagan in practice, slap a 'Christian' label on it, and then proclaim I am still holy? This is ludacris!
I do not need to go bankrupt. I do not need to practice paganism. And, I do not need to know the ways of the heathen. Some of y'all seriously need to find an altar... seriously!

Someone did make it to Mary, Joseph and Jesus shortly after his birth.
To mark "This day".

Oh, you mean the wise men, who did not go to the manger, but a house, and worshipped the 'child' not the 'baby'? Come on now.

Dancing before idols and pagan images is also a practice with Pagan roots.
Yet, David chose to dance before the people of Israel as the Ark was moved from Obededom's house.
All this after he went to the priest to see how the Ark was to be handled.
In this dance David was praising and dancing before the Lord.
His wife even called him mad.
It did not matter with him or where the origins of this expression had it's roots.
All he knew was if pagan's can dance before lifeless god's and lifeless idol's.
The King of Israel should be able to dance before his Lord and King.
If a Pagan can celebrate a lifeless god.
Then how much more should I celebrate the God of all ages.
I celebrate him because he is the "Hero of the Ages"!

seriously, dancing in itself has nothing to do directly with paganism. Pagans may dance and they may eat also but it does not negate eating. The origin is the issue and anything that has been brought in from Mithra should be discarded. That includes Easter.
David being called mad had nothing paganism nor did his dance. Dance is a form of worship in itself, thus his dance was celebration unto the people. Show me a reference to David saying anything about pagan in what he did or he even thought that. Dancing was a natural form of worship in Israel. Again you reference to his alleged thought process is nowhere in scripture and speculation. Also the ark is from God and not pagan, while Christmas is. Seriously retool the argument and get back to me. sheesh
