Re: We're Not Putting X-Mas Trees Up!

We could start calling it FishMas, and use that Fish symbol instead of the "X."

Okay. It's a stretch.

I DON'T think that the majority of the world makes Christmas about Christ. But then again, we don't control the climate of any other household except ours. We just do our best to make things centered around God and godliness, and have a clear conscience.

Fortunately, SHOPPING has NEVER violated my convictions. Okay, ONE time it did, because I spent a truckload of money on myself because I was mad at my husband for forgetting our anniversary, but that is another topic.

Well. Not a truckload. But around $500.

Really? No birthdays? Not even a "Happy Birthday, I'm glad you were born 8/9/10 years ago on this day" to your kids? Why not?

Why should we? Will we go to hell if we don't?

Well, it was a one time occurrence. I don't normally go over budget, so it's not like a make a habit of flouting his financial wishes. But I marched in, plopped all the receipts on his desk, cheerfully showed him everything I'd bought, and said, "Happy Anniversary." I think I added something to the effect of, "It'd be cheaper if you'd buy me a present next time."

It was the next day or so, too. I gave him plenty of time to at least give me a card--or even a phone call!!!!

It was about 5 years ago, so it was pre-forum. Can't blame that one on the evil influences of liberal discussion.

P.S. I didn't use credit cards either. I paid cash.

LOL! No. I'm just wondering what your reasons are. My Dad didn't celebrate Christmas, but he sure did want birthday presents and cake.

Cake, I can have anytime I want. No need for any frills.

Re: We're Not Putting X-Mas Trees Up!

Haha! Actually, Jeff is very soft hearted. I love it when he takes me shopping for clothes, because he'll pretty much buy me whatever I want, if I ask for it. He tried to buy me an outfit one time at Macy's that was over $400, and I talked him out of it. (Stupid, stupid, stupid!!! LOL!!!) He kept saying that it looked so pretty on me that he hated passing it up. Sweet, huh? So I have to be careful what I ask for.

That said, he knows his own weaknesses and won't go shopping with me (or the kids) unless he knows he has money to spend.
