Re: We're Not Putting X-Mas Trees Up!

Huh, excuse me, folks. Can't we extol the evils Thanksgiving before we start hacking down the Christmas trees? We're getting like Walmart around here. We are putting Chritsmas before Thanksgiving, the day millions of turkeys will be sacrificed to feed the gluttons among us.

Re: We're Not Putting X-Mas Trees Up!

For the record... on the Jeremiah 10 issue...I stand less with the explanation of a woodsman cutting down a tree etc and more with the basic thought of the entire chapter. That being "Learn not the way of the heathen".

I don't feel that the specific instruction concerning the tree is cut and dried enough to use as a basis in the presence of those who do not believe and only serves as an argumental point for others to debate.

The fact that these practices came from the heathen and that, per scripture, are practices that the church never should have learned seems, to me, to be much more solid ground scripturally.

Because of the church's adaptation of these heathen practices our Christ is nearly unable to be discerned from the plethora of other "g"ods out there.

When God is celebrated in the manners in which He ordained His people to do so he stands out in the crowd.

How many "gods" were born on December 25th?
How many "gods" use the evergreen to symbolize their eternal nature?
How many "gods" are remembered with a yule (which means solstice) log the night before the raising of the evergreen?
How many "gods" are remembered in the spring with fertility symbols like the egg & rabbit?

Our failure to heed our Gods instruction have made our one and only Christ and King to be one among a million. His Kingship above all has become a kinship among many.

Indeed... our God has, once again, proved His wisdom to be higher than our own.

And let us not forget that Thanksgiving was celebrated (for the most part) with Native Americans, and we all know that they worshiped the Sun, not the Son.
And yet we sit down for Roman type meals.

Keep Christ out and we are guaranteed to have more and more of our religious rights removed. The way the world is going, we will soon be in the tribulation.

Just another thought - Throughout my years of ministry, the parents who lived a life full of the Word, with love, compassion, and a godly example, tended to have children who were consecrated to God. The parents who crammed it down their kids throats and ruled their home with iron fists had the highest percentage of backslidden children who, when they became adults, hated church and anything to do with God.

Yes! Yes! Now you understand the full implecations of taking Christ out of the season...

I agree with what you have posted....

God Bless you!

Re: We're Not Putting X-Mas Trees Up!

Holidays are what you make them. You can worship the true God or a false God. Just because you choose to worship on that day does not determine what God you are worshipping.

I know many people who go to church on Thanksgiving day to give thanks to God for the blessings He has bestowed. These same people thank God everyday but they set aside this particular day as a day of thanksgiving to God.

There are many of these same people who choose December 25 to celebrate Christ's birth. They aren't stupid; they know that is not the exact day of His birth; but they use that day to celebrate God sent Himself in flesh to redeem us. Without His birth we would most likely all be lost. Without His birth, there would not be a cross. If you celebrate Christmas in the godliness of Him, you can't possibly be wrong.

As for me, I enjoy celebrating Jesus everyday but life obligates us to jobs. Having these holidays allows us to celebrate Him all day long without interference.

I LOVE Thanksgiving and Christmas!

Re: We're Not Putting X-Mas Trees Up!

I'm going to exit this thread, as it is stirring something within me.
I was the only guy in my UCon church that didn't celebrated "pagan" holidays.
And today, I partake. I threw all my convictions out when I went Charismatic.
