My theology regarding beards is defined by this one question.

WWJD?

Explained the same thing you said

Facial hair doesn't have the same connotations in every culture
either. in most non white cultures, they don't relate to this whole
hippie thing. That started out as a peace movement against the
viet nam war BUT there is definitley a spirit that's connected to
all of it called the anti christ spirit. That is what many of our
churches wanted to distance itself from.

There was no such thing as hippies in his day either.

If it correlated with the spirit of rebellion, he probably would
have done what many did during the anti american movement.

would you want to be identified with being anti american?

I'm no Bible scholar, but I assure you there was the spirit of rebellion in Jesus' day!

You can't pick and choose your scriptures to use or ignore.

And it's always been. I'm sure there was something in that time
that identified with evil. In the OT, they were not to align themselves
with the Egyptians, or the phillistines, worship fo baal, etc

the wild charles manson look what was we had to fight against
in our day renda

Re: JUST PREACHERS MAJOR Crackdown! turning WPF???

Will someone please answer me this?

Let's assume that old, tired argument has merit; the one that facial hair should not be worn because it associates with a "spirit of rebellion" from the hippies.

And of course, we should trust in the revelation and/or opinions of some of these ole time pentecostal preachers on this.

Okay ... there is no "fashion" look that has more of a negative connotation right now than the pentecostal woman's "look."

It is associated with those cultists with the multiple wives and whatnot.

So ... shouldn't these same preachers be screaming about the big uncut hair and the long dresses and such should go because it is a negative worldly association and your "good should not be evil spoken of"?

If not ... why not?

Even much of "ole time pentecost" has retreated from these women's dress standards as salvational ... it's now just a "making sure" thing or "obey the pastor" thing.

How much more then, should it be cast aside because of association with something bad and negative - in this case, the cultists?

I stand amazed as the years go by how these preachers can tie themselves in knots with these tired arguments just to hold up an irrelevant religious tradition.

If there was an official World Championship in the old parlor game "Twister", probably seven of the top ten finishers would be clothesline pentecostal preachers.
