John McCain couldn't win in the debates. He stayed level-headed and showed no anger or temper and he's critized for not delivering a knock-out. If he had - - they would have played that up as an anger/temper issue.
Obama just has to "look" presidential. Can have associations with whomever and not explain that well, but it's okay because he looks presidential.

John McCain had his best debate so far. I thought he started very strong on the tax issue and the now infamous "Joe the Plumber". I thought Obama looked tired, flat, and unengergetic the first 30 minutes. Obama definitely was on the defensive.
As the debate went on, McCain went entirely negative with eyes rolling and looking like Al Gore did in the debates against GWB. It didn't work, IMO. Obama began to get his feet under him on the energy issue, healthcare and education. I thought Obama finished stronger and made the debate pretty much a straight up draw.
A draw at this point is a loss for John McCain and every network poll conducted after the debate has shown Obama winning by double digits. That's very important.
John McCain did very well tonight, I thought, and if that STILL wasn't enough to even split the decision, this race is over. Looking at the key battleground state polls, I'd suspected for a while that voters had already made their mind up that they are going to vote for change in the form of Obama. Barring the capture of Osama bin-Laden or something of that type, Barack Obama is going to win this election with anywhere from 280-300 electoral votes.
The handwriting is on the wall for this election.

I missed the debate and picked up a few clips on the BBC. Of course all the best liberal shots were taped being that the BBC is just like CNN. Still trying to find the link to the whole debate.
From what I saw, McCain did a good job. Really pushed him on Acorn and Ayers. He didn't let that go after Obama's great and eloquent come back. I thought Obama had him there for a minute - but not so!
