In Numbers 15, the blue fringe was a reminded to them to be set apart. To keep his commandments and be holy. They were different. The blue fringe was not only a reminded to them but anytime someone else saw it they know they were different or wondered why they had a blue fringe in the barder and would ask questions. What sets a person apart from he world if we look alike, act alike, tak alike, etc...I don't believe that Jesus conformed to the world, during his time.

Numbers 15:37-41

37And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

38Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue:

39And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them ; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring:

40That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God.

41I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the LORD your God.
And Jesus world was Israel. So if he dressed just like other Israelites with the blue fringe he would be just like all others in his time in his world.

Re: Mens dress standards in the upc church

Somehow, I don't think Jesus was wearing blue fringe to set Him apart, not as He was counted as company to "winebibbers" and tax collectors and such.

He was outside of the established religious order of His day.

What set Him apart emanated from the inside. He made Himself of no reputation and I think if you were just to look at Him and never try to meet Him, you might have missed Him.

Just like today, the spectators in "church" i-anity miss Him, but those who try to meet Him get to know Him as Father, Savior and friend.

Friends; I have enjoyed all your post and many have been very good.

Jaxfam, you do understand that Jesus (the manifestation of God whom was made flesh) was not part of Numbers 15: 37-41.
Jesus (in the flesh) as many know him was not born yet. God, Lord, Word, etc.... yes.

Numbers 15 is just a reminder that as a child of God they were to be different. Does this mean we are to be high minded and have the better than you look. NO But we can not conform to this world and become like them.

Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

I understand some think this is only the "BODY" (living, breathing part of man), but I must ask are we sure. My studing has lead me to believe that it also is talking about how we present our self, our body, (our temple) outward and inward not only before God but before mankind as well. We are to be as Paul said a living sacrifice, acceptable unto God. What is acceptable unto God? All I can say is pray, fast and read the Word.
I do believe and hold fast to it that this does come in how we dress, how we do not dress, how we talk, how we do not talk, what actions we do, what actions we do not do, where we are seen, where we are not seen. The list goes on. As a child of God you are under the microscope of many, many people at all time. Do the reasonable service.

I will end on this note which may get other feedback. Revelation 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM let me see. Is Numbers Old or New testament? Gee I really don't know.....

I don't think anyone is saying that we as followers of Christ are to look like the world. What I do think we are saying is that in Jesus day we don't think you were going to look at Jesus and 'see' a physical outward difference in him compared to any others. You were going to find the difference in Jesus in the way he lived, talked, acted, etc. I don't think he wore his robe 6" longer than anyone else. I don't think he wore his sleeves futher down his arms, He robe anymore loose, etc. We might al be surprised to find that at times Jesus may have done exactly like Peter did and stripped off and worked naked. Peter was fishing naked when Jesus came by on one account. Jesus stripped off and then girded himself with only a towel to wash the disciples feet.
Does this mean I am going to go around naked now? God forbid. But I am not going to go getting upset because someone is working and takes their shirt off either. I don't think that act brings them down to a non Christ following level.
Their life is going to prove they are followers if Christ. Their conversation is going to prove they are followers of Christ. By our fruits will be known. Not by how long our skirts are, how long our pant legs are, how white our shirts are.
