I will disagree with you assessment above to this point...

The practices are absolutely of pagan origin. They were absolutely used in the worship of pagan goddesses (Ishtar), deities etc.

People may be adapting a common event and creating a way to "capitalize" on it but we tend to call these things pagan & evil because of what they are.

If one feels that they can "capitalize" on these things... that is another issue... but I call these things pagan because it is, without a doubt, a pagan ritual that has now been adapted by the church.

My issue is with the mixture of the 2.
Most people don't even know what Pagan is.

Yes sir... This is true...

A lot of that might be due to the fact that someone who believes as I do must hold his beliefs in silence if he wants to live peaceably with his pastor & fellow church members.

Discussion, even if it is just good, healthy, non-judgmental, open discussion is actively silenced in most churches.

These types of things are actively kept on the hush hush...

Hence... "Most people don't even know what Pagan is" becomes an absolute truth for the day.

I agree Ferd. Does it mean that you are doing it to honor a pagan god ... ???

see, this is the point. I dont know a hand full of people that even understand this notion that easter eggs have a pagan background.

we arent worshipping anything when a 3 year old hunts for an egg, they are just having fun.

it seems to me that there is some value in kids having good memories of church. Good memories go a long way in keeping adults around church.

God knows we have too many folk that will not walk into a church because of hte bad memories they had growing up.

Okay ........ here's the definitive word.

Yes, it's okay to have Easter egg hunts.

Now go and be in peace.
