I agree. Puts it in a better light to me.
Indeed it does...

And.. again... to me... it seems a bit empowering for the churches.

The whole thing bears a derivative of a pagan goddesses name. That name is probably spoken by more Christians than by pagans.

Using Resurrection Sunday would seem to be a step in a good direction. You have at least chosen the terminology rather than accept what was handed down to you.

Like I said... a move in a good direction at the very least.

While it was yet dark as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week Mary and the other women came to the tomb Mary looked in inside and saw a colored egg the angel said "Go tell my disciples and Peter they are gonna miss the egg hunt."

It is true that good memories and warm fuzzies are no basis for a belief system...

It is also true that sarcasm is an insufficient rebuttal.

The question is more like, what Church will judge the other if they do?

If you are going to apply the scripture of eating food offered to idols to something someone does concerning the issue being discussed here then you would have to be speaking of someone going out after easter and buying the cheap easter candy on sale.

That is eating food that was associated with the practice.

What you would need to be able to make the point you were trying to make here is to find a scripture that spoke well of them taking the traditions they used when making offerings to the idol and using it in an outreach.

I don't think Paul wrote any letters along those lines.
I think what we tend to call pagan and evil, is simply businessmen using a common event and creating a way to capitalize on it. While I don't think it is a great sin to participate, these things should not be the focus.

My practice is to not participate and yet not condemn my brother who does.

I will disagree with you assessment above to this point...

The practices are absolutely of pagan origin. They were absolutely used in the worship of pagan goddesses (Ishtar), deities etc.

People may be adapting a common event and creating a way to "capitalize" on it but we tend to call these things pagan & evil because of what they are.

If one feels that they can "capitalize" on these things... that is another issue... but I call these things pagan because it is, without a doubt, a pagan ritual that has now been adapted by the church.

My issue is with the mixture of the 2.

Is not our use of the Roman calendar based on honoring pagan gods similar???

Am I sinning by saying today is Woda's Day .... or tomorrow is Thor's Day??

And the next day is Freya's day...

That would be up to each person to decide I suppose...

As for me...

I approach it like this...

The days of the week bear the names of pagan deities.
The months of the year bear the names of pagan deities.
The clock is a derivative of the zodiac.

You are absolutely correct. We are surrounded by things that are pagan in origin.

My belief is this.

The things I concern myself with in relation to what is of pagan origin and what is not are the things that are part of my worship.

When I offer worship to my God I strive, with all that I know, to offer that worship without mixture.

The rest of my life... I just have to live it.

But I am as careful as I can be to offer to my God worship that is not from another altar. Those things that are part of my worship I pay close attention to.

The rest is just life.
