Re: The Man Is the Priest of the Home?
Let me just say, that this thread is making me miss my father! I would have loved to discuss this with him. *sniff* (I know, that was random.)
I'm going to go do laundry now--ya'll have fun.

My question is: I've heard this before, but is there a particular scripture that supports this line of thought in any way, even out of context? I certainly couldn't find any exact quotes.

Is that why the man always has to carve up the bird on Thanksgiving? That little sawz-all is a scary implement. I'd rather just stand back and sprinkle holy water like the Pope.

Amen. This is what I tell everyone all the time.
To be honest. I recognize there are those that are called to preach etc etc, but I sometimes think it a disservice to call them "the ministry" which leaves everyone else out of "ministry". We are all called to the Ministry, just not the same particular offices or callings, but we are all priests and as preists we are all called to serve Him

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:
- There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
- The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
- Every sinner must repent of their sins.
- That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
- That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
- The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

I think we're in agreement that men are to be the head of the home, and that doesn't just mean the husband says "jump" and the wife says "how high?" A man has a huge responsibility to his household, both practically and spiritually speaking.
I also understand that prayers can be hindered if something is out of kilter in the home. I agree with that point, generally speaking. I'm not sure I would take it as far as you seem to, but I do agree that the relationship in the home affects the relationship with God.
Okay, here is another thought: What if a wife holds a conviction her husband doesn't? For example, what if a woman believes her hair should remain uncut, but her husband wants it cut. The woman leaves her hair uncut, because it is a conviction she holds out of her relationship with God, but the uncut hair is supposed to be a symbol of her submission to her husband. (re: your post earlier this thread)
So, does the woman prefer her husband, or God in this matter, and if she prefers her conviction (which is between her and God), is that not example of how her relationship is at least somewhat autonomous?

Sister, let me say this..... I am commanded to Obey the laws of the Land... as long as they do not oppose the laws of God... since the beginning God set an ordinance through nature that women should not cut their hair..... and therefore this supersedes any earthly authority... please bear in mind.... you should not be unequally yolked with a marriage partner... the scenario you mention above would only happen if you have disobeyed scripture and married a man who is not a believer.....

So, you were not their spiritual head... if not then you had no spiritual authority over them.... now maybe we're opening another can or worms
I love how Paul was not a High Priest either and yet he tells the church that HE MUST PRESENT THEM TO CHRIST as a chaste virgin

Part of the job of the 5-fold minestry is to equipt the saints 'for the ministry of the saints.' saints have a ministry. They minister in prayer for the saints and unto God through worship and love to the unsaved and encouragment to other saints.

Take it up with Jesus.. it was the last gift he gave to his precious church... 5 offices filled by men to mature the church... to perfect the church, to rebuke the church, to exhort the church, to correct the church.. and they are in the FIVE FOLD MINISTRY....... and this does not include every believer.....

I did NOT say that. The husband has authority in the home God-given authority in boundaries. The pastor has God-given authority in boundaries. Being a spiritual leader and being a priest is not the same.
Example we confess to our priest the saints don't confess to me.

You are correct all believers are not part of the 5-fold ministry. God placed the ministry in leadship however the ministry is the priesthood. Believers are the priesthood.
