I had an experience today that made me think alot about people.
I was on my way to take my daughter to a day camp at the school were I work, from there the campers were going to a baseball game. On the way my Suburban broke down. I pulled over to the side of the road and lifted the hood. I called my husband and told him that the "spinny, spokey, fan-looking thing was smoking really bad" (now try to said that fast while you are in panic voice!). The most intelligent man that I know, could not make out what I was saying and so he asked me to take a picture and send it to him. After I did he said, "it's the alternator, call road-side assitance" (he works an hour from home). So I called and my 10 year-old daughter and I proceeded to wait on the side of the road for an hour. Not a single person stopped.
In the meantime I was 3 miles from the school and I proceeded to call anyone I could think of to come and pick her up so that se could make it to her camp. most people didn't answer their cell phones and the ones who did answer, didn't offer. I was so frustrated! unfortunately I didn't have the numbers for our pastor with me (he would have come!) I also didnt have my best friends' work number, she would have come too.
So the truck driver pulls up and he is a ringer for the actor, Michael Clarke Duncan (look him up). All 7 feet of him! He proceeds to take our Burb home and when he found out that I would have to take a taxi to where my husband's truck was parked, he insisted on driving us (because the little girl can't miss her ball game". He was my 7 foot tall, sweaty, Angel!
But to the point, I was relating this story to a friend and she said, "well what do you expect, people don't want to stop, they are scared". I said, "I realize that we are people with a sin nature, and so the "right thing" doesn't always come naturally, but I want to live in a 9/12 world".
She replied, a 9/12 world?"
I said remember the day after 9/11 and months following, people gave their own blood, and money, and homes to help others" What have we come to that people won't stop for a woman and a littlle girl.... Remind you of anything from scripture?
Any thoughts?
What would you do? What if you drove by someone tomorrow?

Good post....what would I do?...I really cant say....I need to pray and meditate on this.
I want to say...OH I WOULD STOP AND HELP....but....in reality...I havent in the past!
Once again, good post!
Blessings!
Had I been you I probably would not even have had the trust to crawl up in a big truck with a 7 foot sweaty "angel" either!!.......although I do wonder how many angels we really do miss.
I typically dont stop because of the danger in the situation (being cute and female...everyone wants me!!...kidding) but I do often (more times than not) call the police or the # on my DL to let the officials know there is a stalled person, or if its on fire (for some reason I have had to call 911 about cars being on fire a lot). I try and help in ways that are beneficial....and safe. There has been times (one just earlier this year) where I witnessed a wreck and I stopped/stayed until help arrived. In part to make sure help came, and in part because I would want someone to do it for me.

God was punishing you for sending that sweet little girl to a baseball game.
Funny....

Very recently we had a similar experience, A very bad car accident happened right in front of our house, I ran up and and started praying for the woman in the drivers seat (I saw someone else had called 911) and I stayed with her until help arrived. There was little else I could do because her car was so bad that the jaws of life had to eventually get her out, but I couldn't stand ion my front yard and watch someone possibly die without a prayer (literally)
Do you think society has turned us into the preists and levites in the story of the Good Samaritan?

"The Biblical story of the Good Samaritan, if you hadn't heard, is about a passing Samaritan helping an injured man in need, while other, self-righteous types walk right on by. Psychologists John Darley and C. Daniel Batson wanted to test if religion has any effect on helpful behavior.
"Their subjects were a group of seminary students. Half of the students were given the story of the Good Samaritan and asked to perform a sermon about it in another building. The other half were told to give a sermon about job opportunities in a seminary.
As an extra twist, subjects were given different times that they had to deliver the sermon so that some would be in a hurry and others not.
Then, on the way to the building, subjects would pass a person slumped in an alleyway, who looked to be in need of help. We like to think Darley and Batson beat the (stuffing) out of some random dude to make it more realistic, but sources say otherwise.
The Result:
The people who had been studying the Good Samaritan story did not stop any more often than the ones preparing for a speech on job opportunities. The factor that really seemed to make a difference was how much of a hurry the students were in.
In fact, if pressed for time, only 10 percent would stop to give any aid, even when they were on their way to give a sermon about how awesome it is for people to stop and give aid. Though to be fair, if you were late for a class, did your professor ever accept, "I had to stop and help a wounded traveler" as an excuse? Probably not unless you could produce the guy's blood-stained shirt as evidence." http://www.cracked
What do you think??

When he got out of his truck I called him my knight in a shining armor tow truck, I think he thought I was bonkers...
Then when we got to the house I offered (and brought) him a glass of ice water, he said no one had done that before... kind of sad
