None of which changes the point I made. We are still making potions, but it's done in a laboratory now instead of by a medicine man. You guys are going to have a hard time disconnecting the two and disconnecting that scripture from using pharmaceutical types of cures for what ails us. I do not know why that word was translated into witchcraft or why it was included in that scripture, but that doesn't change what it means one bit, Bro. We still have "witch doctors" and "medicine men" today. The only difference is they work for Pfizer, Merck, Bayer, and other companies.
There is no connection between those who try to discover cures using science, and those who try to cast spells or cure ills by interacting with the spirit world. Or do you think your local pharmacist is mumbling chants while he grinds up pills into powder????
We do have witch doctors today--but your local drugstore pharmacist isn't one of them.

dude, if a car comes to Dallas from Berkley California, that dont mean I have to hate the car.
its a car. the fact that it spent time in the land of idiots doesnt matter.
and who cares what some sorcerer did in 3AD? the guy down at Phiser working on a cure for cancer has no relation!
thats just silly thinking. and its why you have such a hard time with Christmas.
you make too many of these silly connections.
but I love you anyway!
Ferd, the point I am making is that modern day pharmacology has its roots in medicine men and witch doctors. You seem to be denying that fact. Pharmaceutical companies are still going into places like the Amazon to find combinations of herbs, stems, roots, berries, and bark being used by natives to cure illnesses. In fact, I saw a program on Discovery a few weeks ago where they were gathering the ingredients used by the medicine men of this tribe to take them back to their labs for study. It is what it is, Ferd, and it came from where it came from. That's not a silly connection, Bro. It's a fact. I've already acknowledged that I don't know why the translators chose the word "witchcraft", and why it was included in Galatians in the first place.
Also, don't pretend to understand why I don't celebrate Christmas because you obviously don't.
Isaiah 53:5: "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."(KJV)
"God sends no one away empty except those who are full of themselves." Dwight L. Moody
So what is your point here? You are saying that you do think it has roots in witchcraft, but you take them anyway? Either you don't really think that, and you are just stirring the pot , or you do really think that and you are blatantly embracing witchcraft. Which is it?
Derrick, I am merely stating facts, Bro. Whipping up concoctions to heal people eventually grew into what we have today.

That's simply untrue, Rico. Or are you of the opinion that there were no legitimate physicians in Old Testament times?
Again, using any natural resource for healing and medicinal purposes is NOT the same as witchcraft. Witchcraft has to do with the spirit world. Crushing up berries or bark to make a medicinal (healing) drink does not. (Unless the concocter deliberately involves the spirit world as a component)

Does anyone believe Luke practiced witchcraft? I am sure as a physician he prescribed medications.

From φάρμακον pharmakon (a drug, that is, spell giving potion); a druggist (“pharmacist”) or poisoner, that is, (by extension) a magician: - sorcerer.
I would greatly appreciate a clarification. Are Research & Development pharmacists and compounding pharmacists poisoners, magicians, and sorcerers?

Sister, read my lips: I already said I don't know why the translators chose to define the word pharmakeia as witchcraft. It is only used three times in the Bible, and all three of them refer to sorcery and witchcraft. Take it up with the translators and Paul, because I didn't write the letter.
None of which changes the fact that our modern day pharmacology has its roots in medicine men and witch doctors. If there was something wrong with you, you'd go see the medicine man, he'd figure what was wrong with you, put together some potion made from leaves, bark, roots, herbs, berries, or whatever they had found works, and then you'd take it. I am not making this up, it's a fact. The only difference today is that the pharmaceutical companies synthesize the ingredients found in the plants. Good grief! Y'all are something else!

So in Bible days they didn't have physicians, only "medicine men?" Or "witches?"
Answer the question, Rico.
