Then why WOULDN'T they also require re-baptizing to restore backslidders?
But, baptism doesn't finish the work according to the classical 3 step view. In spite of the importance placed on baptism, in spite of the fact that many say we MUST be baptized in water according to Acts 2: 38 to be saved, that doesn't complete the process. One must THEN be filled with the Holy Ghost to be saved. That is one of the big inconsistencies that I see with the three step view.

1. One must Repent of their sins to be saved.

2. No, "He that believeth AND is baptized' shall be saved.

3. No, wait, one must repent, THEN be baptized, THEN recieve the Holy Ghost to be saved.

Salvation almost becomes a carrot dangled in front of the poor sinner, just out of reach.

Then enter those who insist that salvation is only found in "the keeping of the standards". And in the proper Oneness view of the Godhead, or in observing the Lords Supper and footwashing, or any of the hundreds of stumb... (Sorry, I almost typed "stumbling blocks"), salvational issues that have been tacked on over the years. The poor sinner can never quite get there.

I favor the "Jesus approach". Mat 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. His message was simple and to the point. "Repent". Mark says it is "Repent and believe". Once people heard and obeyed that message, then Jesus taught them what God expects of them. When a person truly repents, they will follow the Lords teaching regarding baptism, recieving the Holy Ghost. Christian principles and whatever else Gods Word has to say - not because they have to, or because it is REQUIRED of them. They will obey God's Word simply because that is what followers of Christ do.

And this doesn't even address those stubborn people who refuse to get with the program and follow the 3 step plan as Peter laid it out in Acts 2:38. Some even have the audacity to recieve the Holy Ghost BEFORE their sins are remitted at baptism! Talk about inconsistency!

There are differences of opinion on this among Oneness Pentecostals.
1. Some believe justification happens at repentance. The articles of faith in the UPC Manual seems to state this but some think they do not.
2. Some believe it happens at repentance plus water baptism.
2. Others believe it happens after repentance and both water and Spirit baptism.

Among those who believe justification happens at repentance, there are a couple of different opinions. Some believe that repentance experience is the new birth. Others believe that the repentance experience is justification only but not the new birth and not salvation.
