Re: Whoa! Polygamist solution is frightening...
On a side note...
After seeing some of these ladies interviewed who stated their ages were 42, 38, and 32...I am shocked at how much older they look than their age given.
Maybe they really don't know their real age???
Sorry if that sounds critical...I just couldn't help noticing as the first lady I saw who stated she was 42, which is the same age as me, looked AT LEAST 10 years older than me.

I spent about 3 months on our state welfare system.. for three kids, the cash benefit was $346 a month and food stamps and of course Medicaid. That is not enough to live on, and I can't understand for the life of me how people would want to live that way.
The state was paid back with the first tax refund my ex husband tried to claim on a federal return. Which is the way it should be.

That is exactly what happened in Texas when President Bush was Governor. It really changed things for women especially in this state. Even in small towns like ours there are job search help with computers, and we even have a few times a year companies will hold a job fair and it is very successful.

They just said on the news that they don't record the ages of the mothers when they give birth because they know that they are breaking Texas law.
At the same time - I say this while holding my breath because I already know I am going to offend some on here - when I first saw the women from this group, they looked exactly like Apostolic women to me. Long hair done up Pentecostal style. Long dresses. No make-up. And I'll tell you honestly, many, many Pentecostal women I know look much older than their real ages. MOST of us look older than our actual ages without at least a small amount of make-up. Then add the hair-do's and there goes a few more years............
Plus, the one other thing we have to keep in mind is the trauma that these women are experiencing right now. Everybody looks much older when they are in the middle of a crisis time.

I don't see that anyone on here is defending anyone. What some are saying and I agree, the time may come when Big brother decides that UPC is abusing their children by teaching them that they need to dress holy or refrain from the teachings of the world. Don't think it can't come to that because it can. At one time the Jews in Germany probbaly didn't think it could come to that. If our election doesn' go in the right direction it may come sooner than we think.
Very strange, the 16 year old that registered the complaint has no name and can't be found, now isn't that strange.

Around here it all depends on where you live. The State does not have unemployment offices in every county. It also does not provide computers and such to agencies it contracts with to see to it that people are completing their job searches. In this county the agency's computer was so old and outdated they couldn't even help my get a resume put together. Their idea of "helping" was clipping out the help wanted ads from places like Evansville and Owensboro. Their job search help was pathetic.

You know as with any "man made" crisis the women and children really suffer the most. Even if the men are arrested and go to prison, the women and children will suffer for years. Think about it really. If it is true that there was widespread abuse in this group what will happen to the women and children if the men are convicted and sent to prison. How on earth can the state help that many people, by providing shelter, food, etc. for their normal daily lives. 400 children is a lot of kids that are possibly going to grow up with strangers. And I know foster care is not that great for kids anywhere. And the women, what are they suppose to do? Will they have help from other FLDS groups? We really need to pray about this situation that God intervenes and that these precious souls are able to have the help they need to be safe and secure in this world.

You are too sweet to take offense to, and I really expected more comments like this long before now. I am somewhat proud for the amount of restraint some of the more vocal "standards" opponents have shown. I was sure as soon as I saw those pictures that there would be plenty of comments, and there have really only been a few.
That being said, the reality, at least around where I live, is very few Pentecostal women look like that anymore, except maybe if they are in an independent, more extreme group. My thought was, I wonder how those preachers and churches who have apparent contests to out-holy each other felt when they saw those pictures. Those ladies put them to shame!
