One of these days Im gonna take some pics and post them. For those that don't know, the Santa Barbara area towards Santa Maria and then Camarillo-Santa Monica are all really small strips of flat lands that go from the ocean to the mountains. Ventura County has a lot of area in the mountain areas but thankfully no fires. The rest of VC is where I am at, mostly a large flat basin between mountain ranges.
San Diego seems to be a combination of the mountain areas, hilly land and some flat land near the ocean

I have not heard one person criticize the firefighters here or the actions. For 2 days, we have not been able to get planes in the air...not a political stand-off but because of the weather. You put them up there and they go down...you have more fires to deal with.
As for Bush coming in later....I don't have a problem with it. There are a ton of personnel that needs to take place to prepare for his visit...which takes away from the matter at hand.

They are going to say Bush acted faster because Arnold is a Republican and perhaps because most of the affected areas are not black? Though I am sure the affected areas are in fact black, hispanic and white...Lot's of Latinos in SD. Castaic area is probably more white and Hispanic and Asian demographically and Malibu is probably the same demographicaly

Is that on an average day with out bad traffic? It takes me about 15 min to get to church with traffic. I am probably just a few miles from the Ocean. I live near the 101 and the church is closer to the ocean...about a 5 min drive with all the traffic lights and traffic. Sadly I have seen this town add a ton of traffic signals in my life time to do the growth, but nothing like SD of course :-)

You know I was thinking, no matter that that is still not that far away. I know on the way there I often drive through areas that cut right through a lot of hill side and brushy areas.

Actually, she has family who lives near the Wild Animal Park.
I wasn't meaning to make light of it, but the post struck me as funny.
I can't imagine what you and RD (and perhaps others here) are going through, but I hope that your possessions are spared, but more importantly, you have your lives. I know you realize this. The situation is devastating to me and I'm 2000 miles from you.
