I think its one thing to say "They turned in their card", and another to say, "They threw their card down and walked out" (implying a temper tantrum). The former states a fact (which in this case, is a lie), and the latter states a fact (lie), with characterization, implying immaturity and maybe a hot temper on the part of the minister, neither of which is a desirable Christian attribute.
So. Stating a lie as a fact is bad enough, but then when you throw in the characterization and colorful details, it colors the character of the person being talked about.
Do you two know what defamation of character is? Its simply a lie about a person or entity stated as a fact. Stating opinions doesn't count, but when you tell something untrue as if it is, you have crossed the line into Defamation of Character.

I have to admire the pluck of the saint who went straight to the source. The main problem with Gossip: People are too scared or too lazy to ask the person (being discussed) directly.
If, when folks hear something interesting, they would simply either: Find out for certain if it is true, OR, keep it to themselves, Gossip Would Have Nowhere To Go.
What is so hard about making a phone call? Or an email? Perhaps...afraid of being told its none of their business? LOL!
I have been meaning to ask you about PJ and Colin. Are they still in Austin? The last few times I have been at church there I have not seen them. I used to see PJ in the praise and worship group. Has she retired?
No....but she had a long, boring summer...with her foot in a cast. She broke it in, oh, I want to say, July? Maybe? So, she was home for about 6 weeks.
Definitely not retired...but temporarily out of business.

Actually, according to the link you gave, it has to be derogatory, too, not just a lie. That's what I was questioning, but your point above is good.
