So, after all the critical analysis of Youth Congress, and the coup d'etat via Tampa, who had the larger crowds?

I have been told the GC numbers did not match the crowds of 17,000 at YC.

If a controversial General Conference cannot pull more numbers than a burgeoning youth gathering, what does it say of the UPC organization?

I note that most criticism of Youth Congress was simply brushed aside - with no real evidence of future events being less cutting edge.

The big draw on the GC biz session ended in a coup by the estimation of many - conservatives and liberals alike, with traditionalist conservatives taking second place.

I agree with S Epley and others when they say there is no turning back this tide.

The question is, Do we have more to gain in this than we have to lose???

Does anyone have numbers for the General Conference attendance?

GC is a waste of HQ's money IMO ... they should have the business meetings every year ... and invite the public/laity every 2 years ....

I know that would put a dent in their fund raising ... but if they learned to use the technology at their disposal they could find inventive ways to raise funds.... while still hitting ministers at the door.

We have more to gain. We are setting our sites on witnessing to Hannah Montana and SpongBob....we are not satisfied with just Dorah.

I think you hit the nail on the head there, Hoov. I was sort of feeling depressed because of the drag of the UC's on the movement, but now I think the movement is still on the move.

People are really tired of the shameful way the political game is played (the 1992 AS, the "life long heritage lost" when a 30 year ban is lifted...).

So instead of showing up for the train wreck, people are are jumping on the trains that are moving.

And I disagree about the "coup." I was surprised that #4 passed, but as I said before, I am pessimistic by nature. I think light is breaking through the clouds.

We had a little of 10,000 that registered.

Comparing apples to oranges here. On one hand we have married people (mostly ministers) choosing to go to a political conference over a fishing trip or sightseeing family vacation.

On the other hand we have young people wanting to meet other single Pentecostal young people so they can find that special someone. Which means that they too will one day decide between General conference and a vacation rental in the mountains or some other vacation.

And without a stake or influence in the political ball game they are most likely to choose the fun vacation.
