But what about the computer you are using to be on this forum with? I don't know the exact dates but I do know that the oldest computer we own..which is at least 7 years old...already has the technology to play and burn DVDs...

How old is your computer...if it was purchased in the last 5 years I can promise you that you have something to play those home movies on...matter of fact, you can play any DVD to be rented at Blockbuster on that computer...unless you have removed you media player software...

Did you?

Secondly, most (if not all) major networks archive the latest shows on their respective websites (ABC.com for instance has the latest episodes of lost and desperate housewives right now)...so if you are on the Internet...you have TV!!!!

What say ye?

Can you see the issue here?---You claim to have this profound holiness that has taken opportunities forvideo and TV out of your home...yet you have computers and internet access which give you the SAME opportunities! I don't get the double standard.

How do you rationalize this information to allow the one while you brag about disallowing the other?
In the case of Elder Epley when he bought a computer with a DVD drive in it he had a computer geek disable it!!!! I just hope he doesnt end up buying any software on a DVD. LOL!!

how about folks just having the integrity to not do something they are against? If they are anti-tv, they can be in a hotel room, with a TV, and not watch it..

just like being online. Why do we look to accuse a brother of not being consistent simply b/c he has some spiritual maturity?

They have enough integrity and sense to NOT do something b/c they feel it is the wrong thing for them to do...

on that note....the TV/internet isnt the issue, never has been - never will be.

If folks cant be Christian enough to know what is right and what is wrong, and know when they are allowing filth into their lives, well they need to be transported on the short bus to a facility where someone can make their decisions for them....

And filth comes in many mediums...it's not just TV or internet - it's everywhere you look today.

why do we waste energy on these discussions??

I would hope that spiritual maturity would encourage consistency across the various mediums, not discourage it.

Those guys from last night cannot be real. I think it's one of our regular members under new screen names just stirring the pot.

BUT!! If we're going to use your "common sense" thought on these rules, we wouldn't ban tv or internet or anything at all, we'd just tell people to sue common sense in what they watch...

and... well... what's the fun in that???

Why do you assume that people have the spiritual maturity not to watch the hardcore porn and other things 10 times worse than anything on tv that is the majority of the stuff on the Internet, but not think they don't have enough spiritual maturity not to watch Desperate Housewives??? I mean... really.... that's absurd...

Answer the questions posed a few posts back...

"Does your computer play DVDs?"

...and..

"Do you have internet access to ABC.com and other major networks who now 'air' the same programming via the internet?"

WARNING: If you answer yep to either of these questions you may not be as holy as you thought you were 30 minutes ago.......
I'm sure my CPU will play a DVD but it NEVER has. I'm sure my internet connection could pick up TV programming but it NEVER has. Could you say that? I don't watch TV or any kind of movies at all. I'm not self righteous nor do I think i'm holier than anyone else. I'm just trying to live for God the best way I can. I don't feel bound up at all. By the way, my argument isn't with believe nothing charismatics. My arguments are with the lying (TV in their homes) UPC preachers. Do whatever you want, I don't consider us even on the same team. In fact I have a lot more respect for a man like you that turns his card in because he doesn't believe the message of truth that I preach.
