This discussion of women and pants is a 'Round Robin' discussion that will never end.
No matter how convincing the arguments are on either side, we are NOT going to convince the other that they are wrong.
Well, let me make my motivations clear for starting this thread. I am not trying to prove anyone wrong per-se, in that I am merely trying to find answers for myself. I definitly see the merit in the traditional pants/skirts position, but I am not convinced that is the only position that could be considered an accurate interpretation of Deut 22:5. Again, I see the merit in that interpretation, I just don't think it is the only interpretation. Thus I am trying to see if there is anyone who has a more conservative bent in their interpretation of Deut 22:5, but has made allowances, or has a more balanced approach than the "if you are a girl and wear pants, you're destined to be lost". I just don't see THAT as a biblical stance to take! I am trying to be conservative in my approach, but I want to take a purely biblical approach, not the UC approach, not the UL approach, but a truly biblical, balanced, and relevant approach. Thanks!
Unless I am mistaken, Phils wife was implying that the majority of women wore bikini's at the beach.
As one that grew up in Tampa, FL, and spent about 6 of my late teen years out of church, and on the beaches of Tampa, Clearwater, and St Pete, I can attest to the fact that most DID wear bikinis. And during the 80's the popular version was "string bikinis". Popular for the girls, as everyone seemed to wear them. Popular for the guys, because they all lusted after the girls that wore them.

The majority of ADULT women are not wearing bikinis. Hooter Girls might wear bikinis. Exercise Instructers might wear bikinis. Rich socialites who have time to work out regularly might wear bikinis. A few who age well may wear a bikini and a few whales who are clueless might wear a bikini in public (beach, resort, their neighbors pool). But it is teenagers and/or socialites who do so; not your typical American woman.
POINT BEING. Your typical American woman of every age, size, economic bracket, wears pants. It is unreal to suggest there are just as many women wearing bikinis (or even the modified 60% version).

I would say that 95% of ALL Females at the beach wore 2 piece bathing suits. This was all I was stating. I would say that your 99.9% of women wearing pants is a little high. More likely the figure is 99.8%.

You're too funny. 95% of the females at the beach wore two piece bathing suits where the teenagers hang out (cause they were teenagers)!
That has almost zilch bearing on what your typical American woman would wear if she were going swimming in a public place.
That's like going to a rap concert and then asserting that all people listen to rap music.

Women wearing pants, and women wearing bikinis are two completely seperate issues. If you want to link the two, what % of women (total) even go to the beach once per year? What percentage go periodically? What percentage even go frequently? The number drops dramatically. Let's just throw out a number, let's say that 20% of ALL women go to the beach once per year. What percentage of those women wear bikinis? Let's take a high number, let's say about 60%. .6 x .2 = .12... that means that 12% of all women wear a bikini at least once per year. Ok, how many of all women go to the beach periodically? lets say 10%.... (just a hypothetical, if you have real numbers, let's see em). And let's say 60% of those wear bikines periodocally... Then we have .1 x .6 = .06.... that means that 6% wear a of ALL women wear a bikini more than once per year.... Now lets take an even more drastic observance. Let's find out how many women "frequent" the beach, (let's say at least twice a month). The % of all women who frequent a beach would drop drastically, say to 3%.... now let's say 99% of those women wear bikinis... .03 x .99 = .0297.... that means that about 2.7 % of all women wear a bikini at the beach frequently... THIS IS AN ENOURMOUS JUMP TO COMPARE 2.7% OF WOMEN WHO FREQUENTLY WEAR BIKINIS TO THE 99.9% OF WOMEN WHO WEAR PANTS. My point being that these are two completely irrelated subjects.... there is NO reason to try to force join the two issues. Modesty can be dealt with in another thread, but lets deal with pants/skirts, and the appropriate interpretation of Deut 22:5 here guys.... thanks!
I was recently visiting LR's parents, who lives near several lakes and a couple pools. Her mother invited us to go swimming. I saw several women there and can tell you that NONE of them wore a two-piece.
Of course, I was probably the youngest chick there......I wore a two-piece....as in a t-thirt and shorts! LOL!
Even LR's mother, who weighs 84 pounds soaking wet and prides herself on her body (she is so tan she's almost black), was not in a two-piece.

I have been to several beaches recently, and I would suggest that that number is drastically high. I see women in shorts and a loose top... I have seen them with bikinis, but with shirts on over. etc etc. etc... many just wore shorts and a shirt... there are many women at the beach who don't wear bikinis.

Considering there aren't many beaches in the US, I like the stats you pulled out of your head. I think you are more 'on' than not.
Most people don't live anywhere close to a beach, let alone live on one during the summer.
