One does not need to be called Reverend to have this attitude.
And you said this was a "study" lol. Do you think anyone is going to take this "study" seriously when you start of that way?

OK.....

Again with the fantastic assertions, but again I hope you later on PROVE this

This does not sound like a study. It sounds like a polemic.

You have any independent source that this is what it means? Thayer says it means destruction of people.
Anyone can control Jesus's people, Reverend does not mean "controller of the people" nor have you presented anything that shows they were called Reverend. Nothing in these verses connects being called Reverend to Satan or the Nicolaitanes
God hates many things, but you have yet to prove your assertions
What do you mean by control? You are using an unfounded assertion to support this. What was it about the Nicolaitanes He did hate? Was it the same as the Balaams?
LOTS of things are great to exalt ones self. Lots of things can build someone's pride. Jesus had titles too. Are you going to say He had pride or did not reject titles in order to exalt Himself?
That they loved to be called Rabbi does not mean the reverse...that having a title equals pride. Their problem was that they LOVED those things because of pride.
They WERE called Apostles though and that is a title. They WERE called Bishops though, and that was a title. Just because it was not part of their name, like we call each other Brother or Sister so and so does not equate it with satan, the nicolaitanes or pride.
I still fail to see how that equates being called Reverend with Satan, Nicolaitanes or pride
Ok, this is just not a study. This sounds more like ranting. WHere is the study?
That does not prove being called Reverend is wrong. Man and I thought you were gonna present something good here.

Still waiting for that study

Ok....still waiting. You have a lot of assertions...very little evidence.

Wow...because they are addressed as reverend that is YOUR first thought? My goodness. And you can SEE their pride and self promotion? Something here is not right.

He see's your title?
Bruce the Brother?

If it was anything like this, it was an angry sounding polemic, not a study

My blog:
http://brobruce.blogspot.com/

PSS. Some of my friends who are in denominations state they could never teach a certain Biblical truth, or they would be kicked out of the denomination. Since I am not part of any denomination or organization, I can and do teach what Jesus gives me to teach! I have no fear of being kicked out of an organization! Thank you, Jesus!!!!

Just watch, religious spirits like to attack those who are spiritual!

Well that is rather convenient....so this sets you up and poisons the well before anyone can answer. Call anyone that has a title prideful, reverends are Satans man or woman and of course that is ok cuz you are spiritual and they are not. But we can't oppose what you post either because then we are labeled by you, titled you can read, as religious spirits. Oh that's nice....and sad.

You could have actually presented a very well documented and logical study showing how titles such as reverend are wrong. But instead what you offered was a polemic that contains ad hominems and poisons the well

Praxeus done broke off on the issue! Some theories don't deserve the time it takes to refute it; others are so odd it's fun to see the rebuttal.

I have had a revelation:

Every married man should be a reverend!

Eph 5:33 (KJV)
33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

If you are reverenced then aren't you a reverend?

Uhoh... it seems the 'Reverends' on this thread outnumber the rest. Anybody else?

No one objects to this doctrine?

True "Reverend" for Preachers is error. Whats wrong with Pastor, Teacher, Evangelist, Prophet, Apostle? Or better yet just call them by their name. I dont see "Reverend Paul" in scripture.

Omission as evidence is evidence of omission.

I don't see Paul being called Apostle Paul in scripture and I don't see last names being used in scripture so maybe we shouldn't use them either.........

When I consider the various titles given to men holding/exercising ministerial leadership positions within the church, I am reminded of something that Elihu stated, in his response to the words of Job, who "justified himself rather than God" (see Job 32:2), and Job's three friends, who "had found no answer (to Job's woes), yet had condemned Job" (vs 3):

"Behold, my belly is as wine which hath no vent; it is ready to burst like new bottles. I will speak, that I may be refreshed: I will open my lips and answer. LET ME NOT, I PRAY YOU, ACCEPT ANY MAN'S PERSON, NEITHER LET ME GIVE FLATTERING TITLES UNTO MAN. FOR I KNOW NOT TO GIVE FLATTERING TITLES; IN SO DOING MY MAKER WOULD SOON TAKE ME AWAY." (see Job 32:19-22)

Because of these words of Elihu, I am persuaded NOT to address ANY man by the TITLE of Reverend, or any other, that is except Preacher, Pastor, or Evangelist. Of course, that is just my opinion, and I acknowledge that others might look at this somewhat differently, which is their right.
