Kansas Preacher, don’t stop warning people about the incompatibility between Christianity and the vast majority of television programming.
Thank you, OP. I have no plans to change what has been a deeply held conviction for more than 30 years. I guess that's why people call me a "conservative."

By the way, the resolution DOES allow for programming. The fact is, it removes the ONLY prohibition we currently have AGAINST broadcasts, thus granting implicit approval. As one parliamentarian has accurately said, "Whatever is not explicitly prohibited IS allowed."

Here is something to consider: Is it possible that the author(s) of the resolution realize that fact? Could it be that they mentioned ONLY advertising for the purpose of getting a "yes" vote out of those who would be opposed to uses OTHER than ads, knowing all the while that the removal of our current prohibition GRANTS permission?

Then again, who knows?

It is no secret that some DS's are telling brethren that want to go on....to go ahead because the General Board passed a year ago that each dist would decide if they would allow charges to be brought or not.

I know of 3 men that are currently on TV that have said they were told to keep doing like they are doing.
So I guess it will come down to who wants to go through the expense of filing charges.

When its all said and done men will continue to do what they do....I mean really....do you know of ANY that have been the manual police?
There are a very few and that type of policing will NOT be tolerated on the local level.

The CHILDREN picked it up in EGYPT.

What IS the Old Testament, if not the record of the chronic problem the Israelites had with allowing customs from pagan, hedonistic, sensual and idolatrous surrounding cultures to gradually creep in to their set-apart, chosen-by-god and called-to-be-holy sphere?

If you don't recognize that America's culture has descended from Christian (or Judeo-Christian, whatever that means) to secular and is now headed into humanism, atheism, idolatry, and all kinds of other moral corruption, you haven't been paying attention.

But now, instead of having a problem with cultural corruption pecking away at the periphery and borders, it is piped right into the center of the home. Those that create television programming have agendas, and insert propaganda. Madison avenue aims for the lowest common denominator, which is continually being lowered further via desensitization.

Have you read David Kupelian's The Marketing of Evil?

How do you respond to the shepherd/sheep parables that I asked about earlier?

Free bread and circuses were the downfall of Rome. Why do we think we're immune from sharing Rome's fate when the parallels to welfare and television are obvious?

When Cain murdered Abel, I don't believe he was living in Egypt at the time or had he ever lived in Egypt to pick up their bad habits.

I totally agree with you on the television - the immorality of it all - very limited educational programs that are aired. I see both sides of the argument -television or no television. However, IMO, it isn't much different than that of the internet. I'm just trying to understand if there are any contradictions between the two.

I do wonder if a person was to replace the word "internet/computer" with the word "television" in the UPCI manual (page 158 &159 - Computers and the Internet - adopted by the General Board in 1998) that could possibly be applied for both. I think one of the major words that is used is "accountability". Being that of a shepherd's wife, I wish more sheep would have accountability in their lives and accept more responsiblity for their own actions, especially those that have lived a life of a christian for numerous years. New converts need to be corralled a little more.

If a person is strictly against television than hopefully they are very strict with it - meaning:

no viewing of the television in hotel/motel/condo/cabin/cottages/RV/restaurant

no viewing while visiting with friends or relatives that have television in their homes.

no watching any type of videos that was taped from a television program including any type of news broadcast, special reports or sports of any kind.

Also, on a previous post we were talking about self-control and you mentioned about the amount of skinny people in the congregation. That, my friend, is whole other thread. LOL

I totally agree with "Sissy" (the above post).

Lets cut to the chase.........if a person takes a hard stand against all forms of TV, they must stand against the internet too, if not, it's just plain hypocritical.

In the very near future, they will be one and the same, (already are in some aspects).
