I think that some preachers and even some circles of fellowship was already on that bandwagon even long before the merger. I appreciate the perspective preached to me, even from strong PAJCers...an attitude that I have retained yet remaining a solid 3 stepper.

How many of you think this trip will mark their return to the Ark?

What do you think?
Now what is the "ark" again?

Well you see my recollections are different. I always knew the Gospel as being the death, burial and resurrection and that's the way I was taught - thankfully.

In the late 1970's (I believe 1977,78, or 79) some genius preached at General Conference that the UPC was THE Ark just like the ark in Noah's day.

In other words the only way to be saved.

I mentioned this either on here or NFCF awhile back and I was amazed that there were several people who remembered that sermon! I honestly don't remember who preached it but I don't think they have been invited to join Mensa.

Bro. Urshan preached a message called "The Stink or the Storm". I believe he was referring to the Ark. LOL.

Hmmmm....sounds similar but heaven knows that most GC sermons do. "Hold the fort" and "we are the only ones with truth" are the themes of almost all of them.

I don't think the one I am referring to was NAU though. I would remember that!

I have to admit that I feel very comfortable when I'm sitting in the environment I grew up in and was part of all my life including almost 25 years in ministry.

I could handle most everything as far as being a UPC pastor's wife again. But there is one thing that I would have major issue with that might create problem for me and for others as well. So I'm not sure I'm suitable material.

Thus, as we move further away from the earlier and fundamental preaching of the gospel, Acts 2:38 is now mostly projected as THE gospel. This is unfortunate, since this one scripture is moved to the center and focal point of all doctrine, rather than the person of the Lord Jesus Christ and our RELATIONSHIP to Him...through the (now misunderstood) GOSPEL.

It appears that the UPCI (though I love greatly so many godly men there) are more and more centralizing around this one scripture as the basic tenets of their faith. This becomes religion rather than relationship. That centralization has become more hardened with time...as I have observed over 67 years as part of it.

We certainly need to return to the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the Cross its center.

All of this may sound ambigous coming from a srong PAJCer. But I well remember strong PAJCers who kept the cross as the center of our attentions with the Gospel being the broader backdrop.
AMEN!!
