Great Point DA! Could you imagine the coup if people that feel that they are a prophet started to get licensed under the heading of prophet? Not only is there a mystical status with that office, but most of the prophets will vote for the ones "God told" them to.

I can say that cause I have been used in prophecy. I could see how some of them would say that. "God spoke to me and this person is whom God wants in office so that is how I will vote."

I imagine the resolution committee decides the order of these resolutions.

Perhaps I'm too cynical but was any forethought put in the order these are presented on the floor?

Maybe he's the author of the resolution.

I don't think sunday school teachers, or others should be given voting rights. That would open a whole new can of worms.

And after reading the resolution again, I don't think it's about S.S. teachers.

The issue concerning the resolution about "under question" ministers seems to be an attempt to define exactly what is meant by the terms "under question" and "unbecoming conduct"--which have been used for many years to force UPC pastors to refrain from preaching for man who leaves the org. or having them preach for you.

Though the years, one who has lost his license due to sin, and one (like myself) that just wanted to leave the system peacefully with no sinful reason, have been looked upon with the same stigma because both were "put under question". And anyone "under question" is a sinner...right????

Now they seem to be attempting to say...if a guy is put out "under question", we the board vote that he violated the Articles of faith...this happened to me even though they had nothing but their own imaginations to stand on...

but if a guy is put out with "unbecoming behavior" that means he's a rank sinner and probably in bed with prostitutes.....

Either way the result is the same...UPC can't preach them and they can't preach UPC....

There is a thread out there that discusses this in greater length, but the truth is that it is a crock. IMO.

I feel it is a way to control the "organization" instead of letting it be the "fellowship" it was intended to be. It is some what of a way to protect the local UPC church incase something happens. The real intent is to help the UPC churches during scandals of sex or money. It is meant to protect the ministers and churches in the UPC. But sometimes it is not always that way.

Hope this does not ruffle your feathers. But if it does then join the party!
The issue concerning me is that I turned my license in voluntarily and after the fact...matter of fact 2 months later...they decided to "accept my license", but put me "under question". I have no idea what the question was...even at that time we still looked and acted like 90% of the UPC churches--as far as my family and congregation was concerned...what article we had violated at that point is a mystery to me to this day....

The real reason I was put out under question...is #1 they didn't want a UPC preacher preaching for me...and they didn't want me preaching for a UPC preacher and #2 if I ever wanted to rejoin the fold, I'd have to meet that Dist Board and answer the charges against me....to which I can't because there were none.

Certainly 'men of God' would never do such a thing!

You must be mistaken, brother!
