CC, that's a real broad brush you used!

Theoretically, I do not have issues with the positive possibilities of this scenerio or the medium being used in the church.

However, I don't want to see KP and the Promiseland Church to get "burned" on this.

I would think if this possibility would have presented itself to Christ Church, LHH and DS would handle with caution.

I would think that KP would do the same!

You can say the church already has drama productions etc, and that justifies letting a crew come in and film a fake service and baptism? They are as different as daylight and dark.

You cannot "creatively edit" your live easter/Christmas drama at the church and have the final product totally change your intended purpose...

These hollywood types can edit your seemingly innocent baptism and do more damage to that church and their reputation than anything.

I agree with another poster, "remember the Borat"
Yes, I suppose they could turn the whole thing into "fast motion" while playing the Benny Hill Show theme in the background, but even if they do, the people being filmed did their part to the best of their ability.

And the only thing that EVER struck me as funny about the whole Borat thing is that no one on the stage sensed the guy was acting! This is from people who probably get a "word of knowledge" multiple times a night during a typical camp service!

I caught the Promiseland webcast of their Wednesday night service tonight and Kenneth Phillips mentioned having filmed the baptismal scene that I started this thread about.

He baptized a female character in a nationally televised network television drama in the name of Jesus in a creek as part of the storyline.

I actually have the webcast still playing during the altar call and at dismisal KP just reminded the choir and musicians to stay because apparently they are also filming a church service scene tonight for the show.

Some of the production folks with this show have a long history with KP and his church in Austin so I seriously doubt there is going to be any "borating" going on here.

I have a feeling this will be wonderful exposure for both a Pentecostal type service and Jesus name baptism. Many people outside the bible belt may see for the first time a gilmpse of church other than the Roman Catholic church or other dead and dry old line denominational churches.

KP has been approached by the producers of a prime time National network television drama that is filmed in the Austin area.

At first they spoke to him about playing the part of a preacher who baptizes one of the main characters in a river after they become a Christian.

When they came to the church to discuss it with him further they asked him if they could see the church batpistry.

While they were standing in the baptistry one of the production people that is Jewish exclaimed that he was feeling something he had never felt before.

Then as they looked out from the baptistry out to the sanctuary two of them looked at each other and said "are you thinking what I am thinking"? The other one said "yeah!" We could film the bapismal scene here but actually film a service and the character coming to the altar, etc.

KP said he told them he would play the preacher in the scene but only if he could do it his way and as you can imagine his way is going to be baptizing in the name of Jesus.

Like all things in Hollywood this is not a done deal. It might never happen or change drastically in editing even if it does.

However I think it is very intersting that there is even the possibility of a water baptism in the name of Jesus being featured as a scene in a prime time network drama.

Typically filming for the fall season begins about mid July. That would mean this is probably one of the first five episodes of the new season .

The show is "Friday Night Lights" and the second season premeires on NBC October 5th I believe.

I have never watched it but it is one of those shows that has gotten rave reviews but relatively low ratings. It was renewed for a second season based on its quality with NBC hoping it will attract a larger audience if they are patient and give it time to grow in popularity by word of mouth.

Pastor Hardwick and myself are poles apart but I believe he would never do this.
