I guess Borat is going to be the whipping boy for anything to do with TV or movies and OP's for the next 100 years.

No doubt they should rip down all of those video screens in churches since borat was shown on screens.
you making this broad statement is as crazy as some of the far right comments we've heard on sleeves and uncut hair....

you honestly think the final product will be some vehicle to spread truth? When have you ever seen Hollywood do the right thing? No, they wont, it will be at best some watered down, insignificant piece that does nothing to spread truth.

Then again, they could twist the whole incident and make the church, God, baptism and Bro Phillips look like a bunch of whacked out extremists.

Who knows? No one, but I think he should err on the side of caution....

it has nothing to do with being ultra con or anti tv...

it's about using good judgement b/c Hollywood surely wont make the best decision.

Also this is FAR from Borat. Face it Borat scammed a lot of UPC ministers. A lot of UPC ministers also used extremely bad judgment in what they allowed Borat to do during a service. This situation seems to be nothing like Borat to me......................

These people seem to be upfront from the start............

supposedly the borat folks were upfront too...they were filming a "documentary" the borat character was an added bonus they forgot to mention. Papers were signed, everything.

bottom line: you cannot trust someone whos intent is to attract an audience to do the right thing...especially hollyweird types.

The situation does appear to be completely different, but it would be smart of Rev Phillips to be cautious of his church....especially not knowing the final outcome, the role this service would play in the future storyline. It could be nothing, or they could end up the laughing stock. I'd suggest he just "play" a minister and baptize in the river...

and p.s....

editing, after the fact, can totally change the original intent and whatever they might have been upfront about. The final say comes from folks not even present at this taping

The difference is in who has control of the editing.

Just as a point of reference. Jesse Duplantis - who preaches the prosperity message and a whole host of other things I don't like, was asked by Robert Duvall to be in the movie "The Apostle" just as one of the preachers, just a few shots of him preaching at a tent revival.... He refused the role because he felt it cheapened his ministry.... so when someone who has perhaps been questioned on some issues of ethics... takes this stand.... I don't know I may (GULP) agree with Bro Epley here

Just like Christmas and Easter drama's depict Christian events and aspects of our faith I beleive something like this does the same.
Firstly if he does his scene he will have no control he is not the producer nor director. Secondily since Elder Phillips happens to agree with myself on the importance of baptism I think it cheapens it's act. Some thinks are NOT for public consumption as in entertainment.

He said he told them that if he was going to do it that it had to be his way. I know him well enough to know he means it.

I don't think he would hesitate to walk off the set if he didn't feel comfortable with what he was doing or if they tried to change things at the last minute. He would have no reason to do it if it were not in fact going to allow him to feature baptism in Jesus name to millions of people. KP has no Hollywood aspirations. Anyone that knows him knows that.

I say pray let God be glorified in all that He does.Let God be magnified.Let more
than one Jew feel something.Let everyone feel Jesus. If I were the pastor I would
just ask to read the screen play. That should clear it up.I would then ask for a contract that releases the church from liability and ask that the ministry of the church not be harmed in any way. That church is Brother Phillips living as well
so he could take that angle if he did.If the film in any way was a Borat type thing
he could make them pay dearly...through the nose.

The difference between legalism and grace. One fails to use proper discernment so surely no one else will either. Now we need a new law. The Borat law.
