I can't stand when ministers are scheduled and then they send you a long list of requirements they "need" before they will come, i.e. five star hotel with restaurant, certain type of transportation, etc. When that happens, we pass that minister on by and go for someone not so presumptuous.
Sherri is that common? to ask for a list of requirements?

I felt it was a little presumptuous, myself to be so frivolous with someones money, the church is not a mega church-(that wouldn't make it right either)

When the pastor told us this story he didn't mention any names and rather laughed it off, but still I felt embarrassed-

Wasn't it the host minister/pastor who ordered the $400.00 lobster and the visiting minister observed this? I haven't read every page of this thread, but I thought Thad clarified this.

Here's an edit:

I read a few back and now I am more confused....Who's right?...Is there to be more clarification from Thaddeus?

I think I'm way outa my league here. I can't imagine paying $400 for one lobster. Or $1600 for, what?, 5 or 6 meals? Man oh man, ya'll are some rich folks!!!

I'm just the poor little sucker who puts my pittance in the plate each week, trusting that the man of God will recognize it as GOD's money and not his own and will use it and spend it that way.

(and Pianoman, I realize that the money for the $1600 meal didn't come from church offerings I'm happy for you that you can afford to pay that much for those meals. I'm just saying that I don't belong here if you all are this rich!)

I hear you. Some of those preachers who preach loudest about sacrifice are some of the ones who know most little about it. I usually spent less than that. Just reality.

Jeanie, sadly it is common for anyone who is well known in the Spirit filled world. Maybe not in UPC circles, but definitely among independent ministers or singers. Lots of them demand a certain offering amount, rather than a love offering. We just won't have those that do. We always bless visiting ministers abundantly, more than they are usually expecting. It just aggravates us when they ask for a certain guaranteed amount.

Jeanie,

You should have known better than to rely on Thad to accurately report something!!!

This is the guy who had my pastor marrying the married female church administrator of Christ Church!!!!

I agree with this post. We always sacrificed so that visiting ministers and their families could stay in a nice hotel, have accounts at restaurants and gave extra for offerings. What is upsetting is after you've done that and you no longer pastor, no body knows ya...Oh, well.

To me a 400-500 dollar lobster seems over the top.
Having seen days with very little food in the house and no money to grocery shop this is very hard to imagine.
