We "preach" a holy God...but the real teaching is to "live" a holy God...His ways, His life style, a 24/7 thing....This salvation MUST become a life to us not a Sunday and Wednesday thing for a couple of hours. We must be consumed with HIS HOLINESS not a bunch on man made things.
What is man made? WEll, you go home and study...pray, seek...We must become ONE with our creator. To be one with HIM is to be like him...
Jesus did not see things as we do...He looked from another set of eyes...He willed us, gave us His eyes...He spoke often about it...
I am weeping writing this to think how carnal we have become in the light of eternity...
One preacher came down here and tryed to convince me our women should wear hose...HOW FOOLISH...HOW VAIN...when half the world starves for a crust of dry old bread from your table he tells me to buy my ladies hose...
So many are like firemen who straighten pictures in buring houses...

Great thoughts, Sis. Alvear!! I know when my inlaws were in the jungles of Liberia, the women didn't wear anything above the waist. When they got saved, they encouraged them to pull those sarong things up under their armpits. If someone came to church in the U.S. with bare shoulders (strapless), we would be appalled. But over there, it was totally modest. I think a lot of it is cultural.
Modesty is defined by culture, absolutely!
Every culture has modest apparel, and what may be modest on them isn't necessarily going to be modest on us. In some cultures, you teach them how to dress according to your definition of modesty and you will offend them. I once read about a certain African tribe where women are topless as breasts are highly regarded as their beauty (I'm not wording it exactly right, but that's the gist of it) and they would never think of covering them, but it's not for the men to gawk at, but it's no different than us women looking presentable to the public with our hair combed neatly.

I really do not know anything about fusses and fights on the west coast so whatever I personally say is not in anyway to belittle anyone...I live thousands of miles from the west coast and have no contacts that give me news from there. Really as a mother in the church I leave those kinds of things to the men...I speak out only as a church mother and a lifetime missionary.
I just get the feeling that many of the places I go, the meetings I sit in even though we may "look" different we are far removed from the early church and its ways and practices.
One concerned saint said to me, Sister Alvear, we have no miracles in our mists...signs and wonders are almost a thing of the past in some "solid" churches...not to mention the gifts of the spirit. The first Church was filled with signs and wonders. The first church had the gifts and the fruit of the spirit.
My friends we need to seek God, lift up a cry for God's spirit and His rightousness in our mist. The first church WENT everywhere preaching, read Acts 8:1-5...
The first chuch HAD the fruit of the spirit. They were known NOT for what they professed to believe BUT for HOW they lived. They were consumed with love even for those that hated them.
Read some church history. It was not forms and fashions and endless traditions BUT they earnestly sought to "bring" Jesus back in their day.

We had a young man(40 yrs old) come to our services Sunday.He told us he received the HG at age 14. As I taught the lesson I noticed that this man knew very little about the scriptures. While I was making a point I mentioned holiness, boy did this man come alive! He let out a big amen and threw his hands into the air shouting praise be to God!!!!

Not one time as I taught on the application of the blood of Jesus Christ to our new converts did this young man shout out any thing. Only when he thought I was talking about dress standards did he shout. How sad he knows nothing but tradition. Tradition is not always TRUTH!!!!!!
