Re: Who was Harry Morse ?

Did the Latter Rain movement start among trinitarians or among Oneness? Or was it always on the fringes from Azusa Street onwards till it became its own movement?

The Hawtins were Trinitarian. One of the brothers did accept Jesus Name baptism but became somewhat a Branhamite.
However the main focus of the latter rain movement was to forget doctrine. It started in the late 40's.

Re: Who was Harry Morse ?

A set of Bible school notes from 1942 are coming my way. They are only for one year, but i will take what I can get. A third set exists, but the family has not sent them my way. I hope they do.

Meanwhile, the typing continues.....

Re: Who was Harry Morse ?

So, I'm typing away only to stop to see how many pages are left. Then the theology notes stop. Ruth Yadon then write down 3 poems or songs that God gave her after she had been ill.

I sent them via email to Ruth's granddaughter. She was quite pleased to read them.

When I have permission, I will post them.

Re: Who was Harry Morse ?

It has taken longer than I had planned to type up Bible school notes from 1929. All in all, 105 Google document pages are what it took to make the old handwritten notes digital.

I have not done any analysis yet. They do cover March of 1928 until December of 1930. I wonder if they are the oldest set of Bible school notes from a Oneness Bible school ??

Ruth Yadon used a pencil, and 3 different pens. The light pencil color was the most difficult to read.

A second set of notes from around 1942 are also promised to come my way. I never could find the notes that Olive Haney wrote about in the biography of her husband. She described a different notebook for theology than the one for practical ministry.

Some of both topics are in the one notebook that I have. But 90% of it is theology.

I will post a list of the topics Morse covered. A few different teachers also taught. I will also generate that list.

Please be patient !!

Re: Who was Harry Morse ?

OK, here we go. Typing away and examining this old notebook while listening to Walter Hawkins music. It seemed proper. He was quite popular in college.

The notebook cover a time period from December of 1928 until December of 1930. Classes were usually held on Tuesday, Wednesday and with Thursday or Friday. Some months they only had class twice. Other months they met 13 times. The average was 6 times. Never on the weekends.

There is a 5 month period in 1930 (June through November, when they had no classes.

guest speakers

3/28/29 L. C. Hall

2/12/29 Josie

6/11/29 Marie Jensen- Morse at convention

9/3/29 Bro. Wineguard

9/10/20 Sis. Wineguard

9/13/29 Aunt Maude

9/20/29 Bro. Wineguard

9/24/29 Haskell Yadon

9/27/29 Aunt Maude

1/15/30 Haskell Yadon

1/24/30 Frank Ewart

6/16/30 Marie Jensen

There is also an exposition of the book of Revelation. It is given in 31 lectures. They cover chapter 1 through chapter 17. I only have notes for 16 of the 31 lectures.

Not sure what to make of it all. Did Ruth Yadon not take notes during every lecture ? Is there another notebook ? Olive Haney said she had 2 notebooks. One for theology and one for practical lessons, like how to conduct a funeral.

I have another set of notes coming from around 1940. This may clear things up, or make them worse !!

I did not survey topics covered. I will do that as well. Please be patient !!

Re: Who was Harry Morse ?

Harry Morse covered Daniel in 30 lessons. The only other book given that much focus is Revelation with 31 lessons.

The great earthquake and the world war made prophecy interesting. Toss in a Holy Spirit outpouring about the same time as the earthquake, and one can see how important prophecy was to churches.

Or am I overstating the case ??

I think I now know why Clyde Haney was such a prophecy man. His teacher was the same way.

Time to snowplow the driveway, or Mary will go on the war path !!

Re: Who was Harry Morse ?

More class notes data to share. Not sure how to do it. It will all be in the book.

But for now, I will list some of the topics covered in class by Harry Morse. Most of the notes are a topic name and a bunch of scriptures. Not many summaries or theology quotes or comments.

But the topics covered do show what was taught, and what was not taught, in 1929. My focus is to cover what lessons were important enough to teach. Most of the notebook covers lectures on Daniel and Revelation. The feel of the notes remind me of adult Sunday School lessons.

resurrection of Jesus
divine guidance
prophecy fulfilled today
the earth
funerals
God leads them
the church
sin
blood
redemption
unity and anointing
lesson on faith
steadfastness
consolation
the name of names
stars to shine and voice to speak
christian perfection
reward and upward
the attainment of christian life
heavenly citizenship
the Lord is at hand
knowing truth
missionary work
book of Job
wisdom
Armageddon
day of the Lord
work of the Holy Spirit
war implications in latter day prophecy
marriage
spiritual restoration
tabernacle
manna
144,000

There are a few practical lessons on how to conduct certain special public services, including...

street meetings
altar work
how to conduct a saints meeting
foot washing
funerals
business meetings

I will not print the entire notebook online. I wanted to give a feel for what was covered in 1929 for a group of ministers being prepared for ministry. Class work was part of the student experience. Regular revivals were another feature of the learning experience. For the book, I think I will list the speakers at the revivals and add the class work to try and show the big picture of what a typical student experienced at bible school.

Students did not seem to do any homework. It was all lecture style.

I hope this will do for now...

Re: Who was Harry Morse ?

There were not classes from July until December of 1930. Still trying to figure out why.

One of the guest speakers at the mission was a missionary and his wife. Looks like his name was Wineguard or Weisguard or Weneguard. Trying to read the handwriting in the notebook is not always easy !!!
