Where are all the tithes paying people at? What frustrates me is that the folks who believe in tithes paying as a commandment can't even defend giving your money.
There are churches who preach that you will be cursed with a curse. Then stand up for yourselves if you believe you are following the will of God.
I'm not trying to start a debate but this is an important issue. People are paying their tithes before their rent and expecting a blessing from the Lord for being obedient.
It has gotten so bad that they are telling the sick and dieing to pay up regardless of huge medical bills. They take scripture out of context, some willfully and some unknowingly.

For years I have paid my tithes before paying rent (even when I did not have enough to pay rent.) or any other bills.
I am not homeless or starving.

When we tithed, we had good times and tough times. Since we stopped, we've had good times and tough times. Oh, and shortly after we stopped, I got the biggest percentage raise of my career.
There's no magic. IMO.

We Christians do not believe in Magic, it is against our core beliefs.
You would probably gotten the biggest percent raise anyway, it probably had nothing to do with stopping paying your tithes.
Enjoy the money you have, I hope it was worth losing your soul.

Yes, I know you don't like to use the word "magic" applied to miraculous events that defy laws of physics etc. But it's the applicable word (in the real world).

I agree.

Oh, it wasn't much of a soul, anyway.

There is a huge difference between magic and faith.
Faith is based on belief in the creator of heaven and earth, that he is all powerful and because he created the laws of physics he is able to suspend them at will. Which we humans can not do.
We ask God for a miracle and if the miracle would not somehow interfere with his eternal plan or is actually not a wise request, then we simply will not get what we asked. He is the one that does the miracle.
Magic is the attempt by humans to manipulate other or defy laws of physics thru the use of our own will, for that is what magic is the desire to manipulate natural laws with human will. Magical incantations fail for the precise reason that humans do not have the power to suspend or change those natural laws.

OK.

Did you do it because if you didn't you will be cursed with a curse?
I'm not trying to be funny. If the answer is yes, I have a follow-up question.

I have been looking into this subject myself lately, and I have noticed that wherever the Apostle Paul talked to the Gentile believers about giving, he NEVER mentioned tithing, NEVER told them it was required. He simply taught that giving should be done cheerfully, as a person purposes in their heart to give.
The discussion of tithes in the New Testament I only find to be to those who are still observing the Old Testament law. Example: Jesus and the Pharisees (all still under the law, Calvary had not happened yet); and in Hebrews, written to Jewish believers, those who still followed their Jewish traditions (even to the point where some became the Judaizers who tried to require circumcision of the Gentile believers). Of the things that the Apostle James under inspiration of the Holy Ghost said for Gentile believers to observe, tithing was not mentioned.
