Women Preachers

So, what does everybody think?

I have been to churches that believe in women preachers and churches that say it is wrong for a woman to preach.

The early Pentecostal movement (1905-1940) seemed not to have a problem with woman preachers. Some would argue that there would not be a UPCI or AOG without the determination and organization of woman.

Re: Women Preachers

Jesus is the husband of his bride(church) If we believe that we are one with God, then when we speak within the church it is the husband(Jesus) who speaks through us isn't it? The church is the body of believers and not an actual building.(where three are gathered in my name, there am I also--church?) As Christians we are no longer an "I" but a we, with Jesus as the head. He IS the husband of His bride.

God has ALWAYS been married to us--Jeremiah 3:14

God has no respect of persons and can, will and does speak through whom he chooses regardless of race, sex or color. Isn't women submit to their husbands an example that all the bride submit to God? Eve was created for Adam as the bride is for the husband.

No respect of persons---Romans 2:11--Colossians 3:11 and 3:25--**Galatians 3:28--Ephesians 6:9--1 Peter 1:17--Genesis 1:27

If everyone is responsible for themselves (own sins) and there is no respect of persons according to God. Then shouldn't all who know the truth be sharing their faith? (preaching and teaching)--There were prophetesses--(higher rank than preacher and teacher) 1 Corinthians--12:28 --and this is a list according to rank***If God allows women to be Prophets, then any rank beneath would also be allowed.

Female prophetesses--9 of them--Miriam, Deborah, Huldah, Anna, Isaiah's wife, Daughters of Phillip(4)
Joel 2:28-29--sons and daughters will prophesize

Phoebe was a deacon

In the Bible, every time that it speaks against women preaching it is Paul who said "I say". Every time God speaks about respect of persons--He says that He has none, ALL are the same in HIS eyes. This is true--check it out. We should never lead a teaching lesson by beginning it with I say--let GOD speak.
Man is prone to lean on his own understanding and God will allow him to make his own mistakes, even in teaching--it's called free will to choose your own path.

Red face Re: Women Preachers

This is the verse that people always use to discredit women preachers. I chose the amplified version because it can shed light on difficult scriptures. Also I started before and after the actual verse so it can be read in context.

1 Tim 2 Amplified Ver.
8 I desire therefore that in every place men should pray, without anger or quarreling or resentment or doubt [in their minds], lifting up holy hands.

9 Also [I desire] that women should adorn themselves modestly and appropriately and sensibly in seemly apparel, not with [elaborate] hair arrangement or gold or pearls or expensive clothing,

10 But by doing good deeds (deeds in themselves good and for the good and advantage of those contacted by them), as befits women who profess reverential fear for and devotion to God.

11 Let a woman learn in quietness, in entire submissiveness.

12 I allow no woman to teach or to have authority over men; she is to remain in quietness and keep silence [in religious assemblies].

13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve;

14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but [the] woman who was deceived and deluded and fell into transgression.

15 Nevertheless [the sentence put upon women of pain in motherhood does not hinder their souls’ salvation, and] they will be saved [eternally] if they continue in faith and love and holiness with self-control, [saved indeed] [a]through the Childbearing or by the birth of the divine child.

I agree with much of what you wrote Sheila. I have always had questions on this subject. Nobody ever wants to explain anything they just yell here is a scripture!

There is an AG church here in Jax that is pastored by a woman. She and her husband were co-pastors and he passed away and she took over as the senior pastor. She is credentialed with the Assemblies and as far as I can see the AG is not upset about it.

Re: Women Preachers

Fine if nobody wants to argue with me I will argue with myself.

1. This is one scripture out of the whole bible.
2. What are the fruits of the spirit of woman preaching? (As stated before it depends on the person just like men preachers)
3. There were women in the bible who played leadership roles.

Re: Women Preachers

I don't have a problem with women preachers but women pastors are umbilical for the simple reason that they cannot meet one specific criteria

1 Timothy 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, THE HUSBAND OF ONE WIFE, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

Titus 1:6 If any be blameless,THE HUSBAND OF ONE WIFE, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.

1:7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;

I have yet to meet the women that can meet that qualification.

This isn't to argue, but I love what he said.

Re: Women Preachers

I was a woman preacher. I think they are fine. There is no shortage of discrimination against women preachers though.

Re: Women Preachers

I have no problem with women being preachers (speaking) to the group. However, I strongly believe that they should have their husband's blessing and be under the authority of their elder/pastor. I don't accept female elders or pastors.
