I used that phrase on purpose too because the President noticeably did not jump to any conclusions (publicly) on this case.
The President was displaying empathy in a time of widespread civil unrest.

The defendant acted on his assumptions, from the very beginning of this.
The defendant guessed wrong.
His actions led to the death of a 17 year old.
If the victim had survived, no doubt he would tell you that he felt he was defending himself. After all, the victim is the one who was chased by the defendant.
This was NEVER an "open and shut" case and I am SO GLAD that this case, not only made it to the light of the media and conscience of our country, but it made it to trial.

Everyone knows GZ followed TM but NO ONE KNOWS if he chased and confronted.
On the phone we all hear GZ say he ran and the movement noise stops and that he didn't know where tm was.
There is no chase or follow after the point GZ says "he ran" but nearly 4 minutes later a confrontation happens at the near exact spot TM took flight from and you can't see that it's very likely TM turned around came back to initiate the confrontation?
Or maybe they were running in circles or in place.

I had empathy too.
Why wouldn't you want the President to speak about something that, at the time, was galvanizing the nation-- not just black people?

It wasn't right for the President to sanctimoniously insert himself into the discussion. He constantly claims he can't comment about ongoing investigations....yet whenever a black person is involved in a high profile case, he can't help himself. This wasn't the first time he did so. He made an incredibly ignorant and inflammatory remark about a white police officer...that the white officer acted stupidly. That, too, was before the facts were known and we found out it was the black Professor and not the white officer who acted stupidly.
"My main message is to the parents of Trayvon Martin. You know, if I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon. And, you know, I think they are right to expect that all of us as Americans are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves and that we're going to get to the bottom of what exactly happened."
ie, I'm black, your son's black...I got your back on this. Not only did it have racial tones and divided Americans into whites vs blacks, but he was saying "if I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon...." I'm the President, therefore my "son" (Trayvon) must be a good guy.
Look, if Obama wants to talk and stoke racial tension before a trial has even begun...he should have no problem commenting on Benghazi, IRS, Snowden, NSA, etc.

Re: George Zimmerman Trial Live Streaming
Stop using his age as though that has any bearing on it. TM was a GROWN young MAN who stood 4 inches TALLER than GZ and was barely 10lbs less.
Lebron James was 6'8" and over 200lbs at 17....age means NOTHING.
The area the altercation happened was around a corner. TM more than likely was a punk who ambushed GZ when GZ walked around the corner to see where he was going.

Take it however you would like to take it.
It would have been highly inappropriate for the President to not have said anything to show empathy.
The President didn't divide us-- the media did. Besides, we really weren't that divided-- there were plenty of people of all races from all over the country participating in demonstrations for the purpose of demanding legal action.
The President made one error in the beginning of his Presidency, and everyone else in the country has moved on, except for you.

Sadly, I would say it's racially split. Obama, Sharpton and the other "leaders" in the black community should be proud. Every single tweet from a black person is saying regardless, GZ should be locked up (or worse) because he killed "a child." And almost every white person is saying this was a HUGE win for the defense and proves GZ acted in self-defense.
John Good better be packing or get security. As should the Defense atty's and GZ. There will be riots when GZ walks.

Sadly, this wouldn't even be news had he been shot and killed by a black man. Just another kid gone wrong until his life ended.
This also wouldn't be news if TM was over 18.
I think the evidence should speak for itself.

Re: George Zimmerman Trial Live Streaming
The racial overtones of this tragedy were already present before the President commented.
He stated the obvious, but in doing so, he displayed empathy and a resolve to see that this case gets the legal attention it needed.
I say again, I am glad this case went to trial.

I agree with you.
It wouldn't have had the same grip nationally-- even internationally, that it did.
Racial strife between black and white equals dynamite.

C'mon Praxeas.
The defendant's own words spoke to his intent to catch the victim, to make sure the victim didn't get away.
He followed and then he chased, he pursued, he ran after, the victim he thought was guilty of something.
The 17 year old was chased, from his point of view. We have his 17 year old perception of being followed and we see his actions. Classic "flight or fight" scenario.
He was from Miami, visiting his Dad in Sanford.

Miami is a ghetto?
He called police. He was following so he can direct police to his location.
Perception of being folloiwed is not a justification for assault

It wasn't one mistake...it marked a pattern that flowed into TM's case.
By the way...not one word from Obama about 12 blacks who almost beat to death a WHITE, PREGNANT woman. Oh, and where was she from, you ask.....SANFORD, FL.
Where's Obama's empathy?
How about the white lady that was brutally beaten in a home invasion by a black man?
Where's Obama at? Why isn't he talking about them?
Oh....right. They're white.
