It is possible to receive the baptism of Gods spirit BEFORE being baptized (as occurred in ACTS chapter 10). But also possible to receive it long after being Baptized as stated in Acts 8. If you have not been baptized in the Name of Jesus, its necessary to be re baptized as occurred in Acts 19 but we'll save that for another thread lol.

This question stems from your, Are you an apostolic? thread Larry
So, in Apostolic church, what happens if someone is baptized & does not speak in tongues?
Is he booted? Looked down on? Shunned? Re-baptized till this happens? Sent to a Baptist church? <lol What typically happens if this does happen?
Does this happen at the baptism?
Does one get baptized & not show this evidence? < Does this happen? If so how often?
Do people fake this?
??????????????????????????
Here's my personal background with speaking in tongues:
I was sent to a very small Apostolic school as a teen...
During my 2yrs there, 1 time, and only 1 time, did I see the pastors wife "fake" this from what I knew.... I could run a long story for the details, but she was speaking in tongues up front, but for the slightest second she looked out the corner of her eye followed by this look of disregard at another.
That's all I know.
So I thought to myself, if she's not real, then none of this is real.
Months later some questions came up accusing the paster of some things with a girl there (which might have been true but not surprising given the teens practiced & public promiscuity.
So then I thought to myself, if neither of these 2 are real, then for sure none of this is real.
The school closed down about then & that was the end of that....
So that's all I know, aside form scriptures I've been reading up on (Tnks Larry).
Please answer some of these questions PLease PLEASE

You ask a lot of questions... Lol
Just want to address your methods of determining whether tongues are genuine...
A look of disregard by one, and another reputedly falling into sin is hardly any test for Christianity nor a Christian's gift. It has happened to real Christians before, and will again.
I think you are pretty much understanding the way things are though regarding Christians speaking in tongues... Pentecostal Churches tend to be populated with those who have/do speak in tongues, and Baptist and other mainline churches tend to be populated with those who do not. This is understandable to me, even if not desirable.

Re: What comes of those who do not speak tongues?
The look of disregard, what I witnessed....
The church we are visiting speaks in tongues (calmly?) where as the one from the school was (complete insanity to an outsider?).
She was standing up there going bazurk, yelling, wailing, moving every which way....
During this, which I took genuine, in a mear second, she had shut everything off, looked with the look, then went RIGHT back into her gig....
So my point is, and my question is, and it is not a very respectful question, but a realistic one, is.... do you have people that fake this?
My main question to the thread is answered, but feel free to chime in....
Hoovie! I am eagerly awaiting your reply on un-saved Amish in the other thread....

Yes, do we honestly think those people are bound for hell because the "proper words" were not spoken over them when they went through the ritual of water baptism?

I know a lot of good Christians who have been baptized in the Holy Spirit.
Some of them have been water baptized by immersion in the name of Jesus Christ. Many of them have been water baptized by immersion using the traditional Father, Son, and Holy Ghost formula. Some have been sprinkled.
All are members of the Body of Christ because they have been saved by faith.
I know a lot of Christians who have not been baptized in the Holy Spirit. I know good Christians who do not even believe that "speaking with tongues" is a valid experience for Christians today.

Ahhh Sam... you are so inclusive (I just love you to pieces). Just have to share the words of my former UPC pastor right after he stated pretty much what you have above...
"So while all of these 'christians' have 'accepted' Christ... Only the ones who have spoken in tongues have been accepted by Him."
.... of course he had other words for why that did not include trinny pentecostals.
And the short answer to the above question is YES people fake tongues- A LOT!

As much as I cringe when someone grabs a mic and loudly speaks in tongues without interpretation, Paul pretty much makes it clear this gift can be abused. Therefore abuse and even sin does not in itself invalidate the possible fruitful use of speaking in tongues and its authenticity.

Deciding to be baptized is; you making the call to God that you are ready to receive His Spirit (when he decides you are ready)? <in a nut shell lol

As to this, if I would have waited till tonight this screen shot would have answered it for me...
On this application it clearly asks "Have you repented? Have you been baptized? Have you received the Holy Spirit?"
So not all 3 at once..... ah....
We've always been taught it was the first & the 2nd came hand-in-hand....
So many mis-understandings have been answered in the last few weeks it's mind blowing & eye opening!
Thanks in part to many of you on AFF, thanks for being here!
