Presuming I need to find God. Of course.

Everyone has free will, and the truth is not obscured, at least not for long. I no longer make assumptions for others, or try not to. Christ never cornered anyone, never "witnessed" in the manner a Christian would find acceptable today. I've learned the hard way that for me to have "life, more abundantly," I need Christ, not Christianity. "If your eye offends you, you better pluck that puppy out" speaks directly to this, for me. Of course, maybe for you this means to literally pluck your eye out, but see another possible interpretation for "eye." Gotta run! Peace!

Christianity is the belief in, and trusting in, and loving, and following, and obeying Christ. IMO. What do you think it is, and what's wrong (for you) with being a Christian?

Well, mostly the symbol it has become. Sad to say, but I've learned to run from most people who make it a point to tell you that they are a Christian 5 minutes after you meet them. But more than that, I realized that "Christian" as presented in the West anyway, just got off to a death-centric start with Augustine's musings, which even he would deny should be doctrine,
http://www.wikihow.com/Recognize-the...ristian-Models
prolly unless it would cost him the archbishop-ness that he received, hmm. And sitting through the funeral that defined "church" for me just verified it, which is not to say that there aren't great churches out there.
Anyway, to a non-American I would ID myself as a Christian, but in the US the term has just taken on a meaning that I do not ID with. I've just learned that "belief in, and trusting in, and loving, and following, and obeying Christ" can all be accomplished without the politics. Your def of Christianity would be great if it only contained these things, but it does not.

Well, I probably shouldn't have tried to define it. What came over me? There are as many definitions as there are denominations. (At least!)

Re: The Theology of Pain and Suffering?

Yup. Truth never changes, except when it does. I try to approach definitions from God's pov, which I think is part of discernment. This actually causes me quite a few problems, I'm now seeing, hmm...

But if the average guy on the street were to close his eyes, and hear you say the word "Christian," the more or less collective image in the common mind, is the def of Christian, in one sense; in another it is the theology I come from, but I am comfortable with that; Christian is man's best attempt at Bible, it is not Bible.
