My original post had absolutely no ill will toward any group, individual, blog or forum.

The thread hijack and accusations came from certain others who wrongly assumed they are what matter most in everyone else's life.

In spite of the acknowledgement that some Apostolics were Identity in doctrine I am thrilled to hear it seems to be going away.

Bottom line, personally, AI is not something I can hear without thinking of what happened to my friends and family via the Identity teaching.

It is no longer taught because the preacher who taught it died around 1991. The older members still believed it but most of them are gone now as well. In 1991 when we got a new preacher all of the younger members latched on to his teachings and I guess just forgot about the other stuff.

I was somewhat shocked when my brother came back from the Branson Identity camp meeting and said a UPC minister was one of the main speakers. Other friends and distant relatives then attended said ministers' church. He shared with them how roots of the Serpent Seed Doctrine was similar to Identity and his preference for using the term "Apostolic Identity" for those Identity adherents in Oneness Pentecostal, Branhamite and "Sacred Name" (Yahweh) churches who were also non-Trinitarian.

They were involved with Identity for about ten years as I recall. But the long term effects went beyond those ten years (IMO). When they left many of them swung the pendulum in the opposite direction and some attend a very liberal church (theologically) - No longer confessing Jesus Christ as the only way to God.

Please pray for them.

My instincts are that it may be an "Ozark issue." A sensitivity to regional neologism. I have family in the Ozark region of Arkansas and Oklahoma. Several years ago this are was said to be a "hot spot" for "hate groups." Historically, the region has always been a place to "escape" the confines of the broader society.

My own forebears appear to have sought out the privacy offered there due to their miscegenistic habits when the larger society was more racist. Now that the larger society has become more "PC" - the racists are looking for a way to escape.

I remember from news accounts that there were a number of "hate groups" - groups associated with racist agendas that sprang up in around the Missouri-Oklahoma-Arkansas tri-state area back in the Clinton era. I think that there are no doubt certain phrases and words that will generate a particular image or feeling when spoken in this area that may not resonate the same way elsewhere.

Just an impression that I have. There are probably similar things in many other, if not all, regions.

Yes. In our area these groups blossomed at a time when conspiracy theories abounded, fueled by incidents like Ruby Ridge and Waco. It was very common for church people to be a part of the local organized "Militia" with a radical bent.

Once I organized a political meeting in our city and invited a conservative representative from St Louis... Lo and behold, at the end of his speech he gave a plug for the "Militia". I was shocked.
