Re: Do You Believe in Women Pastors?
Enjoying the thread. Thanks, MB, for candidly expressing where you were on the topic.
We have a thread about women preachers lopsided, and in favor of those who support women preaching. On this thread, the majority of posters oppose women pastors (a few undecided folks). Interesting to me.
My intuition is probably closer to MB's. But I haven't fleshed it all out, and try to find biblical support for those positions --- or try to support the Bible by shaping my opinions off of that
Anyone else?

Pastoring is an authoritative position, and requires some stereotypical masculine traits to be successful. In addition to that, pastoring comes with requirements of your schedule and lifestyle that might detract from a woman fulfilling her obligations to her husband, children and home. Far better for a woman to use excess time for good works in the community, IMO.
Other than that, I just don't like a woman boss. It rubs me the wrong way. I can't imagine men responding much better in most cases. To that end, it's impractical.

I really think it comes down to personal preference and from whom we receive leadership. It's really difficult to separate "women preachers" from "women pastors" and make one ok and not the other, in my opinion.

1 Timothy 3:12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
It seems men actually get the position of ruling and leading the home.

Definitely.
So then, I always like to dig at what is going on in this "personal preference." Usually, it's connected to something we believe or have believed.

Sometimes it's difficult to separate what we believe, from what we have been taught.

Very true. So I guess my post is getting "all up in our grill."
I FEEL more comfortable with male-led eldership.
It'd be interesting to get a more true Complimentarian on here to explain. Many of them, (ie John Piper) are okay with women teaching, but not as serving as pastoring elders. Perhaps they can help distinguish.
(p.s. Read a study a while back that said female-led congregations attracted more than 70% females, so this shows you modern man's comfort with women taking the spiritual lead as well)
