Re: Do You Believe In Women Preachers?

Its really not complicated .The bible does not contradict it self.Paul taught in 1st Cor 14:35 women should remain silent in the Church and in 1st Timothy 2:12 for women not to teach or usurp authority over the man because of their order in creation.Timothy 3 gives the qualifications for a Bishop ,it also gives the qualifications of a lowly Deacon which leaves me with the conclusion that women do not qualify to the highest or lowest of these offices in the Church. You say show you proof I say The burden of proof is on the women , I stand on Gods Word, give me Bible that over turns Paul's teaching. Not implied meanings or vague suppositions but scripture .

Dude, you aren't interacting with what others said. All you are doing is pontificating.

Nobody said the bible contradicts itself.

BTW WHO are you responding to? I did ask for qualifications for an Evangelist and Prophet but I don't see anything here that addresses that..

Use scriptures to define a Prophet.

Luk 2:36 Now Anna, a prophetess, was also there. She was a descendant of Phanuel from the tribe of Asher. She was very old, having lived with her husband for seven years after her marriage,

The word is the same for Prophet just with a feminine ending

Jdg 4:4 Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel at that time.

2Ki 22:14 So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asaiah went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (now she lived in Jerusalem in the Second Quarter), and they talked with her.

  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.

  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Not really sure we can prove Oneness of God to the extent as many of us theologize from what we have.

I didn't tune you out when we mentioned scriptures. The argument for Egalitarianism uses the very same two scriptures for discussion. It's all there is on the topic.

And like Socialite, I lean more toward Complimentarian -- even while not seeing this as a Gospel issue, or one that the Church should divide and separate over.

Re: Do You Believe In Women Preachers?

The whole point I am making is this. In this thread it asked the question do you believe in women preachers, if no give scriptures supporting your opinion.I have already been put in the minority because it is required of me to provide scripture when those of the opposition are under no such obligation. Some may think some of my answers are a bit curt however my position is clear and i don't need 5 concordances, 3 Greeks, 2 Hebrews and a Roman to to provide the evidence that I present. I don't rant and rave with every one that disagrees with me and I don't hurl snide remarks . It's been said all I have is two scriptures that is not the case but just for argument sake lets say that is true. That is still two more than the opposition has and also let everything be established in the mouth of two or three witnesses.I did not open this thread , I did not start the argument nor probably will I end it .If proven wrong by the Word of God I will stand down until that time occurs I stand firm.

Paul, do you agree that there are many factors that go into reading what some call "the plain text?" That hermeneutic responsibility is important? That the words we use so plainly in English, were actually in Koine Greek? That understanding the culture, time and context for words helps inform their meaning? This is where the majority of the debate on those two scriptures stems from. And it's a very good debate to be sure.

Like you, I don't find women eldership to have NT precedent. I also see a very real resemblance with the social order God has placed in marriages, in the same manner as is given to the Church. Both are equal, but both have differing roles/expectations, at least as it concerns pastoring eldership.

That said, scholars like Gordon Fee make great points about these texts and issues that humble me just enough to be tolerant for differing views. I also believe that to be the Word of God.

When this situation is looked at more closely, we see that it's not so plain and simple after all. In fact, it can be quite complex and puzzling.
