Welfare/handouts is about buying votes. So is immigration, but that's another topic.
I know you are right about people taking advantage of the government benefits, because I know some that are doing this also. The ones that I know that are seeking every loop hole to get more handouts, won't go and register to vote. So I really don't know if it does buy votes.
I wish that we could have benefits that help the elderly and poor, without people and some businesses misusing the government benefits. It is just like a place where you work, you can have sick pay as a benefit, and then people use it just to take a day off and claim to be sick.

Of course not. PTO (Personal Time Off) is given as its EARNED. That is the difference. Democrats want to GIVE things away without someone having to EARN it.

That's the thing, there not common sense oversight to welfare. I know of a lady who complains she only gets over 600 dollars in food stamps for family of 4. What a joke. I think the whole system needs revamping to cut down on waste.
I know we can't paint with a wide brush but many poor here in the USA are by lifestyle choices. Plus our definitionn of poor is not really poor compared to poor in other places.

There is a lot of wasteful spending in our government, but when you divide 4 into $600 that is only $150 each for the month, and groceries are up from just 6 months ago. Just the other day I was at this lady's house that has a motorized chair, it look as good as new, but she had it for five years and the man from that company told her that she could get a new one through medicare since it has been five years. She asked what to do with the old one and he said give it to someone if you don't want it. That is a rip off of medicare. I am sure that people need these government programs but some of it is wasteful.
