Liberals Always Need Someone to Hate
I don't get the levels of vitriol and passionate disdain that liberals have for Sarah Palin. It comes across to me almost to a psychotic level. Think about it: she is the former Vice Presidential candidate on a losing ticket, she is unlikely a threat to Obama's presidency, most likely won't win the GOP nomination, she doesn't even hold political office anymore and yet liberals not only dislike her, they react to her like she is the greatest threat known to mankind. It goes beyond disagreeing with her politics. It gets personal.
My dad is a yellow-dog Democrat and his reaction to SP is more civil, but I always detect a measure of angst when it comes to her that goes beyond just not liking her idealogy. One day talking about her I said she couldn't be all that much of a lightweight if she was sharp enough to become the Governor of Alaska and seemed to govern fairly well. He responded, "She's the prettiest girl in school." I asked what he meant. He explained that she's achieved what she has simply by being attractive. I stated, "Well, if Hillary was so intelligent, why couldn't she win the nomination against Obama?" He said, "Like I said, she's the prettiest girl in school. You just made my point!" I guess he feels HC couldn't get any further b/c she's not attractive enough. It still dumbfounds me that people have such a disdain for SP and believe silly things about her like this.
A man in our church who is a strong Democrat in discussing politics said, "I'll tell you why I can't stand the Tea Party movement. Its Sarah Palin." I was left stunned that this very tough, masculine, Southern gentleman would be threatened by this little lady from Alaska. And again the feeling I got from him was not because of political differences. It felt personal and I sensed a bit of anger.
Think about the past. Liberals and Dems didn't just disagree with Dick Cheney---he was "Darth Vader", dark, sinister, mean, scary. The personal attacks on that guy were limitless it seemed.
W was not just opposed. They hated him!
Gingrich---more of the same.
I know conservatives can have their favorite Democrat lightning rods. I certainly have liberals that I really vehemently disagree with and completely oppose politically. But to hate? To feel a deep, gut-wrenching when I think of them or talk about them? Its not there.
There are certain conservatives and extremists who spew a lot of conspiracy theories, make personal, poisonous attacks on liberals, and seem angry about their favorite liberals-to-hate. But it seems by and large that liberals have a deeper and more widespread personal loathing for conservatives that are or perceived as threats to their idealogy.

Re: Liberals Always Need Someone to Hate
deacon,
I detested Bill Clinton yet it never rose to the personal level libs have against conservatives, tea party members, and Republicans.
Like you I find the venom and intensity something beyond rational thought.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Re: Liberals Always Need Someone to Hate
What is it? Not more than once have I talked to diehard Democrats and when you talk politics or offer a contrary view, they get angry. They get intense. They bristle. I have very strong political views and I feel passionate about them to a degree, but I don't get angry. I don't have a deeply rooted venom towards the people who embody opposing views.
What is the rationale behind the anger?

Cain was the first liberal. Between expectation of redistribution of wealth and victimhood, things were just not going well for him.

Because it goes beyond politics. Some seem to be mean spirited people. All for equal rights for those that agree with them.

Re: Liberals Always Need Someone to Hate
I do not dislike Sara, in fact I voted for her. ..... I believe the reason why people don't like her is that she tries to act like a man. She wants to be tough making statements like....reload and putting targets on some of the democrats. She wants people to see her shooting guns, and chopping wood...
Remember when Hillary kinda teared up during the Primary, it was said that she was weak, but then John Boenor (sp), speaker of the house cries like a baby all the time, always wiping his nose with his hanky, he is just sensitive.
deacon blues said...."Well, if Hillary was so intelligent, why couldn't she win the nomination against Obama?" He said, "Like I said, she's the prettiest girl in school. You just made my point!" I guess he feels HC couldn't get any further b/c she's not attractive enough."
The reason why President Obama won the nomination is because a lot of republicans changed party in the Primary and voted for Obama to keep Hillary from winning the nomination, but it backfired. They thought that the country was not ready for a black man in the White House, but the democrats voted for the policies and issues that help the American people.

SS - you are putting your personal spin on another story. Republicans did vote for BHO in some primaries, but it was more a matter of stopping HRC. Some Republicans even voted for him in the general election. Can you find me a source for where you found that they voted for BHO because they thought the country was not ready for a black president?
Or, is that just your opinion?

I know it was to stop Hillary Clinton, which I voted for her in the Primary, the republicans knew that Hillary would beat McCain, and that they felt that Obama would not have a chance beating McCain, because most white folks was not ready for a black man in the White House. This is fact, because I know some republicans that switched over to help Hillary to lose, but they really loss.
