The Mosque Should Be Built!
Freedom of religion is Freedom of religion. That really is the bottom line. If right-wingers are successful in stopping the building of this mosque, it will come back to bite them in the butt. Hard.
When the door is opened to preventing the building of a place of worship on moral grounds, it will only be a short amount of time until Christian houses of worship are prohibited based on moral grounds.
The last thing in this world you people REALLY want is for the mosque to be banned from the vicinity of Ground Zero.
"Freedom of Religion" doesn't just mean, "Freedom of MY Religion."

I agree, we have no room to cry if local governments start to zone churches out of commercial areas using this as a example.
Its a freedom of religion issue. The whole point of freedom is that anyone can express their viewpoint, but no one has to listen or participate. I don't see how we can say no to another religion and then turn around and cry when local city counsels say no to churches or make it near impossible to build because they are losing tax revenue. municipalities really dont like churches for what they do to their tax base.

!. They call it a community center. So that is not actually a Mosque. Ooopps It will have a little prayer room?
2 A huge number of leftists oppose it. So youer desparate attempt to make it a right left POLITICAL issue crumbles.
3 Since there are more than 30 mosques in the area, your freedom of religion doesn't hold water.
4 Threats of being bit in the rear tells us it is not about freedom of religion at all. It is an act of in your face defiance and an insult.
5 The word Islam is defined as submission. How ironic. We will submit or else.
6 Gesture of healing
Gesture of healing is like pushing codliver oil down a kids throat with a garden hose because you want them healthy and happy. Better duck because you will see the codliver oil coming back.
7 The widows feel violated. This is done to show dominance.

Re: The Mosque Should Be Built!
Freedom comes with accountability or so it should. It is blind irresponsibility to allow freedom to those who want to destroy our very freedoms. Pay attention to what you are embracing.
Quote:
Imam Rauf should apologize
It is Imam Rauf, and not the bipartisan majority of Americans from all walks of life who oppose the Ground Zero Mosque, who must apologize for fueling anti-American Islamic terrorism. As more information about Rauf becomes available, it is clear that he has spread the same kind of propaganda that al Qaeda uses to recruit new terrorists and is out of touch with reality when he joked about suicide bombers in front of a foreign audience.
Rauf preached from the Islamic terrorist handbook when he said, "We tend to forget, in the West, that the United States has more Muslim blood on its hands than al Qaeda has on its hands of innocent non-Muslims. You may remember that the US lead sanction against Iraq lead to the death of over half a million Iraqi children. This has been document by the United Nations.
What Rauf forgot to point out was that President Clinton debunked the myth of sanctions impacting ordinary Iraqis when he said, "If any child is without food or medicine or a roof over his or her head in Iraq, it's because he [Saddam] is claiming sanctions are doing it and sticking it to his own children."

Re: The Mosque Should Be Built!
It can be built... but "should" it be built is subjective and another question entirely.
It would be horrible PR for the Muslim religion for one thing... I would think that would matter to them.

Two opposing views so far, neither very good at all. Anyone else? It seems the best anyone can say in opposition to it is, "Because I don't like it!!" which could easily be YOUR church the next time YOU want to build.
Just remember, there are plenty of people out there with power who have no use for you aisle-running, pew-jumping, devil-bashing tongue-talkers.

Is that a threat? Facing a threat is never justification for making a thoughtful decision.

Re: The Mosque Should Be Built!
I give the facts, you decide.
Quote:
(AP) The Saudi government beheaded 52 men and one woman last year for crimes including murder, homosexuality, armed robbery and drug trafficking. But Saudis say that while Islam condones the punishment in one context, it condemns militants who decapitated hostages here and in Iraq.
Islam permits the death penalty for certain crimes, but few mainstream Muslim scholars and observers believe beheadings are sanctioned by Sharia, or Islamic law.
The Saudi government says the punishment is sanctioned by Islamic tradition. State-ordered beheadings are performed in courtyards outside crowded mosques in major cities after weekly Friday prayer services.
A condemned convict is brought into the courtyard, hands tied, and forced to bow before an executioner, who swings a huge sword amid cries from onlookers of "Allahu Akbar!" Arabic for "God is great."
|
They may need some more space for a courtyard.
