Ya know...that little "FISH" sign on the back of your car
I realized something yesterday...
My family and I were leaving a restaurant yesterday and as we were walking out, I observed some skirt people walking in, two woman and one man. I recognized them just slightly as belonging to one of the other UPCs in the city, but they did not recognize me.
I thought I would try something. As I saw them coming in, I pulled the door open for them saying, "Sister, let me get that door for you folks." They said, thank you for holding the door, and I said to the man, "Brother, you're welcome, any time!"
They were looking at me like I had sprouted a third eye in my forhead...until they saw my wife...they brightened up, "HI!! DO YOU GO TO CHURCH? WHAT CHURCH TO YOU GO TO!!" The transformation in their countenance was amazing...but telling at the same time.
I realized that the A-standards is how we identify ourselves...Just like the FISH Symbol on the back of our cars...
Funny thing hunh???

In some ways it is a nice thing - huh? Nice tradition, regardless of what else is involved.

Absolutely, it is a pretty neat dynamic, but again, I believe A-standards are more social and cultural and...ahem' religious than they are spiritual...but hey, that is just me.

Maybe it was the piercings, tattoos, facial hair, peace medals, and hippy clothing I was wearing.

Unfortunately, the little fish symbol is about as pagan as it gets. It ties into so much that is contrary to truth that it is amazing that folks from pentecostal churches use it so blithely. (Not saying that you are, but I do see it a lot out there.)

Actually, I pulled off all the Christian symbols and references to the fact that I love Jesus off my car...only because Jesus is not best represented by the way I drive sometimes...
