Re: Merry Mithra?

so miss brattlefield should we let folks be deceived? sure everyone has a choice to be holy or not .. saved or not .. drunk or not and so on. but when truth is revealed and we chose not to take hold of truth we find ourselve ina bad spot.

i never bought a christmas gift for any of my kids now grandkids ,,i dont think they have ever thought they were marked because of it .. they love me to death ,i spent alot of money on them at other times of the yr for sure ..i did let my kids give gifts at school didnt like it but i sent them there as ididnt have a christian school here to send them too it was my fault they were there so we allowed it . reluctantly ...but i cant support a lie.

What's the lie? We don't believe that Jesus was born on December 25th. We don't tell our kids that Santa is real, and agreed before they were even born that we wouldn't tell our children anything that wasn't completely true in regard to the holiday (although I wouldn't call playing a pretend game with your kids--even for a few years--a lie. My husband plays pranks on our kids all the time, that include "fooling" them for a little bit.)

You're perfectly free to state your case like anyone else; I just think you should draw the line at judging other folks' Christianity if they disagree with you, and definitely don't try to rob other people of perfectly legitimate joy! (I'm not saying you do that, but a LOT of people who don't celebrate Christmas do exactly that.)

If you feel something is so important that you have to share it, I understand that--you have an obligation to state what you feel is true and important. But if people (like me) are celebrating Christmas with a clear conscience, that's between them and God--it's not your call--even as to whether or not they're in any sort of "bad spot."

I grew up in a home where Christmas was a big no-no, and it was one of the few things I really disliked--even resented--about my upbringing. I can remember several very negative incidents from my childhood where my father had heated arguments with family members, and not only spoiled their holidays, but ours as well. I remember a humiliating day in school when we were exchanging gifts and I was the only kid who wasn't allowed to take a gift to share. I was so hurt and embarrassed that I didn't have anything to give, even though I still received a gift.

To me, spending time with my family and making ANY holiday (e.g., time when everyone is on vacation and spending time together) a joyous occasion is WAY more important than making sure everyone acknowledges a holiday in the same way I do. (Or trying to dissuade them from acknowledging it at all.)

It's one thing to choose to not celebrate a day yourself; it's quite another to go around upsetting other people about what they choose to celebrate.

I'm pretty sure God didn't intend that:

Rom 14:4 Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.
Rom 14:5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
Rom 14:6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.

Rom 14:10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
Rom 14:11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
Rom 14:12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
Rom 14:13 Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.
Rom 14:14 I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.

Re: Merry Mithra?

I really can't believe so many people get so bent out of shape over Christmas. Are people really so lacking in joy that they have to try to tear apart the one holiday where it genuinely seems like most people act a little nicer, give freely to others and get togetehr with family members rarely seen?

Som eof you act like you never got your official Red Rider BB gun from Santa so you took out a lifelong vendetta against all things Christmas.

Well. all I gotta say about Christ-mass is "thank God it is over. New Years don't intrude on my time, money and peace of mind like christmas.

It is done for nearly a year and I am good with that.

We make just as big of a deal about Thanksgiving as we do Christmas. It's about family, mostly. (And really good food!)

I don't have a problem with people researching celebrations and finding out how people centuries ago celebrated. What I do have a problem with is the silly conclusion that if THEY celebrated a day in that way, that I must also be doing the same if I even acknowledge it. I think that's crazy.

Again:

Rom 14:5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
Rom 14:6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.

Like it or not, scripture already told us how to handle these sorts of disagreements between saints. It's basically an instruction to live according to your conscience, and let others live according to theirs--and don't judge them for doing things differently than you.
