I understand all of the reasoning behind your post. I do not necessarily disagree with all of it. However, where you see this (I think) as government increasing their control on our lives, I see it as the only option being seriously considered at this point. While not the best option out there, at least it is an option, and in my view, a betterment to the system we have now. As for who can compete with tax dollars, UPS and Fedex have been for years. I see this as a way to get affordable coverage to many families that are paying out the nose for sub-par health insurance. If they can have a government option that offers the same coverage as they have now, or more, for less than they pay now, I think every effort needs to be made to make it happen.
Thank you for the compliment. When I read what you wrote yesterday, I knew that I needed to post my points in the easiest way to read and cover everything I could think of. lol

I think it's a very hard issue to resolve and I will agree that the Republicans haven't done a very good job either. I think and hope that because it's come this far, emotionally, we will go with more transparency in quality, price and competition and see if we can fix that before turning it over to the Government.

She does that quite often. That's why she's still my favorite poster in the politics forum.

LOL! Not at all! I think we are in a fast age and are in a Reader's Digest frame of mind - give it to me quick, concise and to the point or I won't stick around very long.

My comment wasn't directed at you personally, at all. LOL!

Twisp, IF OB gets his way then they will phase out insurance companies and offer only government healthcare with all their restrictions. And yes the insurance companies also have restrictions, however, you can at this time, ship for another insurance company. Private insurance will NOT be able to compete with the government who will raise our taxes to pay for the insurance, so you will be paying both ways, if not careful.

At this time, I do not like what I have read about the proposed insurance. Don't know what changes are proposed.

Esther, why do you believe that private insurance can't compete with a public option. The Congressional budge office says only around 10% will even use it.

Because the government doesn't have to pay interest to borrow money and has a bottomless barrel so to speak. Whereas, insurance companies have to pay interest on money borrowed and they have a limited amount of money.

I do not like the health care as it is right now, but I definitely do NOT like what OB has proposed.

I understand your opposed to his plan, I just don't understand what your basing your opinion on a public option about. That's just not factual.

We are looking at, approximately, $1 trillion over the next 10 years. That's going to be $100 billion a year for those 10 years. The proposals circling around the idea of taxing a small segment in addition to having minimal co-payments by those that want to use the plan mean that this large potential expenditure doesn't have the fiduciary stability that it is going to need.

If we don't open up competition by purchasing across state-line, that percentage will increase. We have some states that are represented by one or two large companies. I say that we need to open up the competition before we go government funded/public option.
