Re: Sarah Palin announces she will resign

Well, I've never been a fan of Palin ... this is just more of the same weirdness that I've seen in that family from the beginning.

Good riddance, honestly. Hope she goes home to take care of her family, doesn't run for President or as VP in 2012, enjoys the rest of her life and stays out of the news from now on.

Thank God McCain didn't win and she was VP ... if she can't handle the heat as Gov, she sure isn't ready for the WH.

Re: Sarah Palin announces she will resign

Here's some of the lastest reports:

Andrea Mitchell reported that, according to "people very close to Sarah Palin," she has "told her supporters that she is out of politics, period. She is fed up with politics. She doesn't like her life. She feels that she needs to raise her family. She's sick of the commute from Wasilla to the capital. And she really does not want to run for higher office, that this is not a case where she is stepping down in order to clear the way for a presidential run. In fact, she has told some of her biggest backers in the national Republican Party that they are free to choose other candidates for 2012, which of course opens new avenues for Mitt Romney, for Tim Pawlenty, for other potential candidates who are definitely in the running."

Alaska-based reporter-blogger Shannyn Moore is hearing potentially more damaging revelations are to come. "For weeks the rumors of a criminal investigation against the governor have been brewing," she writes. She spoke of the rumors with MSNBC's David Shuster, saying the talk of a criminal probe into Palin has been circulating for six to eight weeks, and that today's press conference seemed to be Palin's effort at "damage control for news to come out later."
Moore also noted that it made little sense for Palin to resign now to prepare for a presidential run, especially considering she continued on as governor during the 2008 presidential campaign unlike Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, who both turned over power to their Lieutenant Governors when they were running for national office.

The Daily Beast, Max Blumenthal pinpointed a burgeoning story that may be the source of the rumblings in Alaska:

Many political observers in Alaska are fixated on rumors that federal investigators have been seizing paperwork from SBS in recent months, searching for evidence that Palin and her husband Todd steered lucrative contracts to the well-connected company in exchange for gifts like the construction of their home on pristine Lake Lucille in 2002. The home was built just two months before Palin began campaigning for governor, a job which would have provided her enhanced power to grant building contracts in the wide open state.

Could you imagine how her book would read if there wasn't a ghost writer helping her? If she can't make sense just talking how in the world could she write a book that makes sense????

Esther you are defending the indefensible. How about just saying she made the ignorant statement and the media called her on it.

A desire to do right does not a President make. If Sarah Palin can't effectively handle one term as the Gov. of Alaska she doesn't have the capability of serving in high office, IMO. It looks like the majority of Republican strategists and RNC members are calling her toast as well.

If we're deciding qualifications for President on the basis of wanting do do what's right and being a good moral person, then the pool of qualified people becomes astrononmical.
I'm not saying that is all that is required, notice I said that I don't believe Palin is qualified for the presidency, so that point you don't have to keep trying to make.

Carter's legacy is already set, history will yet tell of GWB. With Obama's history, and the his story yet to be told, I'd be careful to continue to demonize GWB. Your party has all the power now, let's see how the lack of character plays out.

Pure leftist bull!! They have no answers, their ideas are far out of the mainstream, and would have no chance at all if they didn't have the corrupt media as a part of the DNC, call good evil, and evil good.

Re: Sarah Palin announces she will resign

Lets see what the Right has to say:

Alaska's Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski issued a surprisingly harsh statement late on Friday, ripping Gov. Sarah Palin's decision to leave office at the end of the month. "I am deeply disappointed that the Governor has decided to abandon the State and her constituents before her term has concluded," Murkowski wrote.

As Fox News puts it, Palin will have "a variety of potential platforms, from writing books to hitting the public speaking circuit to working directly with the Republican Party to get candidates elected" from which to pursue her goals. And in the process, "the ability to make a lot of money -- far more than the $125,000 or so a year she has earned as governor."

“There is just no good way to say quitting has made her more qualified to run for higher office,” said veteran GOP pollster Glen Bolger.

“I think Sarah Palin is on the verge of becoming the Miami Vice of American politics: Something a lot of people once thought was cool and then 20 years later look back, shake their heads and just kind of laugh,” quipped Republican media consultant Todd Harris.

“Palin is at her best when she’s being folksy but there is no way to be folksy when you’re resigning as governor,” said veteran GOP strategist Dan Schnur.

William Kristol, editor of The Weekly Standard and an outspoken Palin defender, acknowledged Palin’s move was “an enormous gamble” but said it could prove smart.

That was pure gold. I got a huge laugh out of that analysis. Very spot on, IMO.

Palin attorney warns press on 'defamatory material'

Quote:
Ratcheting up her offensive against the news media, Gov. Sarah Palin’s attorney threatened Saturday to sue mainstream news organizations if they publish “defamatory” stories relating to whether Palin is under federal investigation.

“Just as power abhors a vacuum, modern journalism apparently abhors any type of due diligence and fact checking before scurrilous allegations are repeated as fact,” the Anchorage attorney wrote.

“Prior to the construction of Lowe’s and Home Depot within the last few years in Wasilla, Spenard Builders Supply was the primary building supply company in Wasilla,” Van Flein writes. “It can hardly come as a surprise that it would sell materials to small homeowners or that it would also bid to supply commercial contracts.”

As for how the Palin’s financed their home on Wasilla’s Lake Lucille, Van Flein says they “used a combination of personal savings, equity from the sale of their prior home, and conventional bank financing to build the house— like millions of American families. The deeds of trust are recordable public records. Basic journalism and fact checking would confirm this.”
