Politics is a contact sport. Once you put yourself on the national political map, the media comes after you. If you saw her resignation speech it was totally weird! She obviously just threw it together. Why didnt she take a few days or weeks to put her story together properly? She did herself no favors with that speech!

In all honesty, she simply wasnt ready for primetime! Sarah Plain is like a talented high school football player that skipped college and went straight into the NFL. She needed a lot more preparation and seasoning in order to be able to handle the spotlight of national politics.

Total flame out!

Very funny, Stew!!!

I'm feeling that I want to view this, at the outset, in the same way as William Kristol. The reason that I want to view her resignation in this way is that Palin has already had 15 ethic charges filed against her and she just wrapped up the win on the 15th.

I'm not seeing a scandal here. She has nothing to lose with this decision and everything to gain. She is a darling to a good many Americans. I'm not smelling a scandal, but who knows - in politics anything can happen. lol

Kristol: A Contrarian Take

If Palin wants to run in 2012, why not do exactly what she announced today? It's an enormous gamble - but it could be a shrewd one.

After all, she's freeing herself from the duties of the governorship. Now she can do her book, give speeches, travel the country and the world, campaign for others, meet people, get more educated on the issues - and without being criticized for neglecting her duties in Alaska. I suppose she'll take a hit for leaving the governorship early - but how much of one? She's probably accomplished most of what she was going to get done as governor, and is leaving a sympatico lieutenant governor in charge.

And haven't conservatives been lamenting the lack of a national leader? Well, now she'll try to be that. She may not succeed. Everything rests on her talents, and on her performance. She'll be under intense and hostile scrutiny, and she'll have to perform well.

All in all, it's going to be a high-wire act. The odds are against her pulling it off. But I wouldn't bet against it.

That what is sad, it is not enough to have character and the desire to made choices, you have to be brutal to win in current politics.
Crak, with all due respect, if the reason for the sudden resignation is that she could not handle the wicked media, I'm not sure I want her as the Commander-in-Chief and CEO of the country (and by default, the world). There has to be more.

If this was the only reason, then this was a small-minded, selfish move on her part. When she stepped onto the center stage of the GOP, she took on a responsiblity bigger than herself...even bigger than Alaska. There are people all over the country who defended her and promoted her in conversations and debates. People who basically defended her and aligned themselves with her as if they knew her personally. I know many people still will no matter what, but there are also many who recognize that she will have left them with egg on their faces if she basically absconded for no real reason at all.

I knew that would wake you up

I think what you are talking about though is the fact that her staff was pointing out that 15 ethic charges had been dropped...there were plenty more filed that are still in play though.
I'm not saying that I know what all happened. I'm just saying that my gut tells me there's more. I'm also saying that I'm not willing to say she is pure as the driven snow, just because she is GOP. I do not know her personally so I would be just as unsurprised at anything with her as I would with any other politician.

And I think that she (and her supporters) have plenty to lose with this decision.

Now, I'd agree she apparently hasn't handled it well and that's too bad, but let's not throw a poor Sarah party here.
You are either blind, deaf or possibly both. If the media trashed Obama's family like they have Sarah's he's pass a law making it illegal. I remember when they tried that in Missouri during pre election campaigns.

You could be right, Stew. As yet, we don't know. Just scouring the Alaska papers, since she ran as VP, I didn't find anything that seemed out of order or suspicious toward her. I never thought she was pure as snow because of being GOP - for the record.

I don't think she has as much to lose with this. William Kristol is a pretty sharp guy and would have spoken all the negatives if it was all negative for her. He didn't do that.

I listened to the clip, and felt she had some plans up her sleeve for her future. Very decided plans that she wasn't ready to divulge so that the media could kill her before she got started.

Just my take. Perhaps, I hope for more...

Re: Sarah Palin announces she will resign

Here's an excerpt from her speech today:

As I thought about this announcement that I wouldn't run for re-election, and what that means for Alaska, I thought about how, well, how much fun some Governors have as lame ducks. They maybe travel around their state, travel to other states, maybe take their overseas international trade missions.

LOL ! Is Sarah taking jabs at the love-lorn SC Governor?
