Reversing Myself
I do not support the President's nomination of Sotomayor for the Supreme Court.
Despite how it is painted, I think that she has racial and gender bias issues.
My opinion is based off of her own words.
However, I think she will be confirmed anyway.
Sotomayor's confirmation will prove to be very unfortunate for the concept of blind justice.

Re: Reversing Myself
How could she not be confirmed?
She has been confirmed twice before when appointed by George Bush Senior and by Bill Clinton.
She is a double minority, both female and Hispanic.
You know how we have to tiptoe around minorities and practice all that Political Correctness hogwash. Can't you just hear the screams of "Racism" if she is not confirmed. And, I doubt if she will withdraw.

You don't have to tiptoe around minorities-- just respect us, that's all Sam.
Respect is a two way street, and sure does help when people respect themselves first, but this is a rabbit trail.
I agree with you that if she is not confirmed, the race-baiting sharks will be waiting.
Concerning that "wise Latina" comment that she made in 2001, well she made almost the exact same comment in 2004-- only it was a "wise woman" instead.
I don't think that the 2 incidents are merely coincidental.
I think she has a chip on her shoulder concerning her race and her sex.
This could cloud her ability to practice blind justice.

What woman in power doesn't seem to have a chip on her shoulder?
And I mean no offense. I believe women can be just as good at things as men and even better.
But, from my experiences most women in authority do seem to have a chip on their shoulder and are just daring someone to knock it off.

Re: Reversing Myself
i have read that 8 out of 10 of her decisions were reversed as a judge , cant prove it but it is shocking , the republicans dont dare to say too much otherwise the hispanic vote that they and everyone else is courting, since they are the fastest growing minority will be ticked , [thats why BHO picked her] but she cant vote any worse than souter i guess, politics stinks !!

Even Obama is a self admitted user and some people still love him. THAT'S THE CHANGE WE'VE BEEN HEARING ABOUT.

You and I come from two different ethnic backgrounds, two different areas of the country, and two different generations so we can't help but see some things differently.
When I said we have to tiptoe around minorities and observe political correctness I meant that if a white man had said something about a white man being more qualified to make decisions than a ____________ (fill in any racial or ethnic group here) woman, that would have been the end of his nomination. There would have been a public outcry from all the different media (except maybe Fox). Yet, because she is a (double) minority she can get by with statements like this. To me, that reflects a racist attitude and a sexist attitude but that is OK if it comes from the right race and the right sex.

Despite our differences, we agree (at least for her case) her statements reflect a sense of bias that I would not want to be present on the highest court of our country.
If this was a stand alone quip, it would be different. But there is at least once more where it is documented where she said something very similar.
I also agree with you that if a white guy had made the equivalent statement he would be through.
Rightfully so.
Just because Ms. Sotomayor says it doesn't make it right. IMO, sh'e just as wrong and she does not have my support.
