On one hand, I think that if one wants to spend their own money haphazzardly, so be it. That's freedom and this is America and I'm willing to bet she bought those shoes somewhere in America-- thus helping some American, somewhere.

On the other hand, since she is the First Lady, I think she should not use her liberties in a way that subtracts from the good she is doing.


I think this MAY be different from Mrs. Palin and Mrs McCain because of the political climate at the time of their electioneering and the fact that they wee using government funds for their campaign.

I am not so sure government funds were being used to buy the clothes those ladies were wearing.
Even at that we can say that OUR tax dollars are buying the first families clothes. They are receiving a pay check that comes from US while they are in office. So anything purchased while in office can be claimed as our money paying for it. =)
I know they all have money to spend but I find it hard to not criticize the media first off for the way they make it sound like it is no big deal after being so harsh on others. The media criticized Bush and how much he spent on his inaugurations but then when it came to this guy he "only spent" and it was way more than what Bush spent. They criticized the Palin and McCain on the cost of their clothes and now the talk like it is nothing to spend $540 on sneakers. Not her first time to step out in this brand. She wore a top and their tops only run from $400 to a $1000.
We have an economic problem here that they all want to blame on others, and others very well may be to blame, but don't give this crew a pass just because you don't want to offend or upset anyone.
She should be criticized for the poor judgement she showed in going to a food bank in something so expensive as $540 sneakers. ANYONE who does that should be criticized.
If I had the money to spend on clothes and shoes I probably would spend a lot more on them but I would not show up a charity function in them. I would use a little more common sense.

OH I FORGOT, they don't have to use common sense, they don't have any so it is okay.


HYPOCRISY gets on my last nerve. This whole administration is full of it. They want to criticize others and not be subjected to it themselves. (that is not just the president and first lady I am speaking of the entire group.

As a side note. There have been times I have spent more on something than I probably should have but when I feel that way I try to be sure to spend that much and more toward things of God. Giving more to missions, causes, etc... I figure if I can blow money on things I feel I want and need then I should be able to give the same or more to the work of the Kingdom.

The Wall Street Journal reported that he used funds from the "Public Financing System"-- government maintained and controlled.


President Obama conducted a succesful campaign using funds from private citizens-- not government maintained and controlled.

Background for criticism on Mrs. McCain is saturated with the quips and quibbles of other Republicans, including Mr. McCain himself:

"$5 Million dollars qualifies you as rich";
"We're a nation of whiners"; and
"How many houses do you have?"

The instances above provided the backdrop and opened the McCain's and the Republican ticket to criticism when it comes to money.

Not to mention the money-conscience climate of the campaign-- with focus on the differences in tax plans and breaks for the rich vs the poor and etc.


The idea behind the criticism of Mrs. McCain was that they were simply out of touch with real America.

I do not see hypocrisy-- I see a different environment.



We are criticizing the First Lady's shoes while she was somewhere performing volunteer service. Let's put things in perspective.

She's not out of touch with America. Her mistake is that her "indescretion" feeds the machine that wants to look at everything they do with a critical eye.


I admit that my lenses are rose colored at times, when it comes to the Obama's, but they haven't screwed up royally yet!
