Re: We're Not Putting X-Mas Trees Up!
I find it amazing we are to be seperated unto God for his work, yet we accept the traditions of pagans as honor before God and the edicts of a church that clearly brought in Mithraic symbols and called it Christian. Then we call it liberty or good conscience to observe and feed the "commercial" monster that is Christmas. The only reason the world gives a hoot about it because it feeds there pockets. Not because of Jesus! In fact they did the same gift giving on Dec 25 in the Mithra religion.

Well, don't look at your calendar that day - - it's pagan too!

I don't serve a God who is pushed away by a tree in the living room. If I were worshiping the tree it would be different. We have had years we have had Chrsitmas trees and we have had years we haven't. Funny I didn't find myself anycloser to God the years we didn't.

So the tree thing is geographical?

How about the Word?
As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written, "YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY." ( 1 Peter 1:14-16)
Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. ( 2 Corinthians 7:1)
Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever? Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said, "I WILL DWELL IN THEM AND WALK AMONG THEM; AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE. "Therefore, COME OUT FROM THEIR MIDST AND BE SEPARATE," says the Lord. "AND DO NOT TOUCH WHAT IS UNCLEAN; And I will welcome you. "And I will be a father to you, And you shall be sons and daughters to Me," Says the Lord Almighty. ( 2 Corinthians 6:14-18)
I am not giving advice, just the Word. Let God be the one who tells them what to do. I know this means little to some, but if one chooses to disobey God's Word, then their blood is upon their hands. Come out and be separate is still the call to the believers. This includes pagan holy days.
Let the Word give advice.

That's because of the years that you DID have one -

We are leaving the east coast the week before Christmas and won't be home until the week after. We aren't putting up a tree because we won't be here to worship it so it will just die.

Is holiness to be mocked? I guess so. The Jews did not have a written calendar, but they did judge by moons, thus a record to date keeping was established even then. Your analogy is faulty here.
The cry is still holiness.
